A long time ago, CheapShow was sent an unusual 7” vinyl record called The Sounds of London. The record contained an audio snapshot of the sounds of Britain’s capital in 1967. It’s a fascinating collage of iconic sounds and environmental background noises, offering a unique peek into the past. Rather than talk it about it on a Silverman’s Platter segment, Paul & Eli decided to go out into the centre of London to try and recreate it instead! This week, they’ll race around with their portable recording kit and try and collect as many modern takes of the original vinyl as possible. The Cheap Chaps will zip from Trafalgar Square, to Waterloo, back to Piccadilly Circus and on towards Fleet Street grabbing all the sounds they can! Will they be magnificently successful or will they completely cock it up? It’s a walkabout adventure that takes in bird dirt, arguments with elevators, a lucky break with the bells of St. Clements and a grotty plan to abuse a street performer! It’s the Sounds of London 2024 in the only way CheapShow knows how.

Ep 369: The Sounds of London 2024

Paul is SO close to finishing his (long in gestation) book this week, so wants to keep this week’s show simple. As a result, he is pulling out his big box of tat and inviting Eli to dive in and pull out anything of value, of interest or of pure disgust. It’s another real time episode with 60 minutes on the clock to wade through years’ worth of lost and forgotten cheap trinkets. There are odd albums to quickly listen to, pretty far out of date snacks and candies to munch on, a cassette of cartoon tunes to remember, some army rations to mull over and a whole range of weird odds and ends! Chances are, if you sent something to CheapShow over the years, it’s finally time to see if Paul kept hold of it long enough for this episode. Hold on tight, this one is a mad rush to the finish line!

Ep 370: A Good Old Rummage

Do you feel the power of the Gladiators? Can you face the challenge of the champions? Do you have the courage of a hero? Do you have the will and the skill? Paul and Eli are going to find out this week when they attempt to play a board game based on the hit 1990s Saturday evening TV series, “Gladiators”. They’ll reminisce over their memories of the show, cover a tiny bit of its history and poke about for any mucky anecdotes before throwing down the board and playing the game… Which is probably for the best because game… Well, it’s not great! Also, after a bit of a break, Eli is back with his “Sauce Report” with a number of sweet and hot condiments to slurp down. Was it a good idea to resurrect this segment, or will the Cheap Chaps just be slurping down out of date sauce until the end of days? Find out this week, in a show packed with new characters, old gags and vast amounts of nonsense words.

Ep 371: Sauce Of The Gladiators

It’s time to get our much on! After a bit of break, Paul and Eli are venturing back to the Snack Palace to welcome a new bunch of snack candidates to see if they are worthy of entry to the hallowed building. There are three products arriving on the Segment Bus (don’t ask!) and they’ll prove to be interesting characters in their own horrible right! However, there is something dark lurking under the glamourous façade of the Palace. What happens to all the lost snacks who don’t even make it into the pool house? What are the Towel Mines? The answer may appal you. Or confuse you. There is also time for a quick “Off Brand / Brand Off” with the popular Quavers taking on a cheaper supermarket brand facsimile! Will Eli the Supertaster figure out the flavour code and choose wisely? Why not listen and find out?

Ep 373: The Towel Mines

It’s been a while, but Eli and Paul are finally diving into a new batch of instant noodle. It’s a new year and because the Country Urban Noodle Testlab Kitchen is “occupied”, Eli is going to have to open up the “Noodle Boutique”. It’s a place where Eli can show off his hand picked noodle discoveries, and this week, he’s got two very interesting examples! Will they pass muster? Listen and find out! Paul contributes to this episode by simply p****** Eli off with a range of new and annoying characters. There’s a mean old man, a Scouse poet and a desperate ghost hunter out to ruin Eli’s return to noodletown. Maybe a quick game of The Price of Shite will make him feel better. Ep 374: Noodle Boutique

Sometimes, when Paul and Eli ask a big name to join the podcast, they fully expect the answer to be No. So when comedy legend Robert Popper agrees to appear, the Cheap Chaps are going to have to pull out all the stops to make this episode special. Ep 375: Scared Of Us

They said it would never happen, but somehow it has! For the first time in over 5 years, the Barshens team have gathered in London for a special reunion episode of CheapShow! Paul and Eli welcome Stuart Ashen, Barry Lewis, Chris Bullock, Ryan Livermore and Izzie Jones (kinda) into their podcast world. It’s a packed show. Paul kicks things off with a few Sharticles, ranging from sexed up whales and dead hamsters to late library books and smooth bollocks. Along the way, there’ll be plenty of nonsensical tangents too. Ep 377: Barshens Rises

Every year Eli races off to Florida to spend time with his family, but he always makes sure he brings back something for the show. This week on CheapShow, Eli has a big bag of bounty filled to the brim with all kinds of snacks, treats and drinks. Maybe too many. It’s a food stuffed episode of CheapShow that has the cheap chaps tackle Buffalo Cheetos, Doritos Dinamita Sticks, Hot Nuts and (sadly for Paul) potted meat. Horrible potted meat. Hopefully the soft drink segment of the podcast will wash away any unpleasantness, as there are three fun sodas to sample. The only downside is that this part of the show allows Paul to make a load more enemies by proclaiming his hate for a particular type of pop! In amongst all the snacking, we get to catch up with TrackBot… Poor old TrackBot!

Ep 378: Gob Job

It’s another week of American snacks as Eli brings more sweet treats to the table. How will the Cosmos Oreos, Hostess Orange Cupcakes and Dr Pepper Peeps go down? More importantly, what exactly do Horse flavoured fried bread taste like? Paul and Eli are going to find out. There are some musical curios to listen to this week, and in a change from the norm, Paul is bringing the vinyl record goodness instead. There is a fascinating dive in the life of radio presenter and “soul singer” Steve Walsh and we also find out what a disco hit designed to entice Burnley Building Society customers sounds like… Especially when you consider who wrote the lyrics! Sadly, the addition of music to the show means another appearance from Trackbot and he still being defiled by anyone and everyone! It’s all very sticky business.

Ep 379: Expressionate Men

It’s common on CheapShow that we’ll have to look at the genesis of a very popular (or obscure) brand and often run straight to the arms of Wikipedia. Well, no more! In this week’s episode, Paul’s found a book called “How It All Began” that gives the potted history of some of the world’s most popular brands. There’s way too much to cover in one episode, so the cheap chaps pick a page each and find out more about the birth of plasticine and Y Fronts. Yes, Y Fronts! It’s a book that may come in handy in the future. Gannon’s Golden Games returns with a board game based on a reasonably recent ITV show that Paul & Eli have never heard of, nor care much for. However, it leads to one of the most exciting, twisty and thrilling games in the pod’s history. As if all that wasn’t enough, Graxton Industries have challenged CheapShow to create an event for sponsorship in the near future, but will their eventual plan be any good? Only time will tell. Also… Can Eli PLEASE stop grabbing his crotch, please?!

Oh Muvva! This week’s episode of CheapShow is a brain melting, word gargling, logic defying audio adventure into the madness of Paul and Eli. Eli is excited to showcase another Noodle Pot Blitz with a wide range of favours and gimmicks. Some will delight and some will disgust, but they will ALL be judged by the world’s best noodle opinionators. Elsewhere in the podcast, CheapShow “scholar” Ivenne has sent the Cheap Chaps another Price of Shite package, packed with an assortment of weird and woeful items. Sadly, this leads to one of CheapShow biggest s*** shows. It also doesn’t help that Paul and Eli are running on fumes and you know what that means for the actual comedy content of this episode… It’s going to get weird.
