Last Week Paul and Eli pulled apart what made Tiswas and Swap Shop work, and this week it’s part two of their Saturday Morning Showdown! The 2nd generation of kid’s breakfast TV shows were Number 73 on the ITV regions and Saturday Superstore from the BBC. Both are very different to each other, and in some respects, from the trailblazing programmes that came before them. The question is, “Which is the ULTIMATE show?” Will nostalgia cloud our opinions or has distance made us more critical? Which one has Sarah Greene in? That will probably be the best one. Ahem. The Cheap Chaps have amassed another collection of clips to review as well as some of the purchasable merchandise that came with the shows at the time of broadcast! You can expect tie-in books, novelty songs and even something lovely to pin to your lapel! At the end of the day, only one of these shows can be crowned Overlord of Saturday Morning and Paul and Eli have a lot to think about in this proper chunky edition of the economy comedy podcast. They also have a LOT of angry opinions on Mike Reid, Paul reveals his childhood crushes and Eli reveals WAY too much about his local swimming pool antics! It’s a shocker! Somewhere in between the mucky talk, weird asides and bitter rants, there is an actual podcast in here! Sometimes…

Ep 268: Saturday Morning Showdown Part Two

The League of Snacks (and Crisps) is dead! Long Live “Snax Starz”, the exciting new replacement segment for 2023! It was meant to be a simpler premise, but as ever on CheapShow, things get complicated, and all of a sudden there are snack palaces, anthropomorphised crisps and a pool house. This week’s inductee is the much-requested Doritos Burger King Flame Grilled Whopper flavour. As you can imagine, it goes about as well as expected. Eli has some brand-new Tales from the Dance Floor stories to tell and to say Paul is unimpressed is a major understatement and rubs him up the wrong way. Finally, Eli is excited to head back to the Country Urban Noodle Test Lab Kitchen with a cheeky little noodle he’s been dying to sample. Of course Paul ruins it with a new character, but thankfully for Eli, said character ends up breaking Paul’s brain! Good. He deserves it!

It’s Radio CheapShow time. Sort of! It’s another whole episode dedicate to the utterly confounding world of vinyl record discoveries. Paul and Eli have unearthed some truly weird and confusing 7 inchers that will most likely be a chore to listen to. This week, the Cheap Chaps consider if “hustling” will really help them get ahead, unravel the dumb logic of an Electro song about The Lone Ranger, sample the delights of a Terrahawks pop princess and debate the musical legitimacy of Cannon & Ball. Along the way, a few upsetting new characters bubble out of the nonsense with a rather distasteful dog and a pointless robot taking up everyone’s valuable time. More economy comedy awaits!

Eli gives more blunt opinions on the week's news, wants to spank women and drink vodka for Easter, gets pissed off with Gingerbread, tells us one too many stories about his vomiting adventures, gets fed like a big hairy baby, admits to sucking off tramps, has a piss poor Tales from the Dance Floor story to tell and considers his opinions on nuts the most authoritative in the world.

It's just another uncatagorisable comedy show!

Oh dear, Paul's been drinking again. This time his excuse is that it's his birthday and he is allowed. Eli is very unimpressed by the state of his podcast co-host, but he battles on regardless! This week, Eli tries to keep the show together and Paul behaves like a naughty boy. It's all rather desperate. However, there IS still economy comedy content. Eli dives into his Cheap Eats hamper to torture Paul with bite of lemony chocolate, fills in the gaps on last week's League of Snacks (& Crisps) Update and stares in wonder at a Pot Noodle without the pot! Paul's in charge of the Vinyl Selection and it's a horrific mix of 80s sitcom novelty music and a 7 Inch piece of vinyl featuring the cast of Grange Hill singing about hosteling! It's all very odd.
