we came across this great mix by caykh recordings of the golden days of somali music. sounds from before the war, songs from before the beautiful city of mogadishu became a battle ground for 2 decades. 

"This Mix of 70's and 80's Somali sound is a rich blend of traditional Somali folk music infused with Western funk, rock and reggae and a touch of Indian, Arabic and African flavors.

There are hardly any proper releases of this soulful sound of guitar, synthesizer and drums. I spent some months finding, compiling and editing rips of TV and live recordings on old VHS tapes and radio broadcasts to cassette tapes and here is what I got. Enjoy! With love from Mogadishu."

Mixtape réalisé dans le cadre de la 16eme édition du Festival Sonic Protest.

Cheb Gero présente ici une sélection de ces chansons folkloriques japonaises favorites principalement issues de vinyles 25 cm sortis entre 1958 et 1964.
En 2014, l‘obsession pour cette musique l’a menée d’Osaka à l’île d’Okinawa. Il ne lui a pas été aussi facile de trouver ces précieux documents sur place. En effet, cette musique folklorique ne fait plus les choux gras des disquaires ultra-spécialisés des grandes villes et il a fallu sortir des sentiers battus pour découvrir ce riche patrimoine vinylique.

Ces innombrables chansons traitent habituellement du quotidien, de la nature environnante, et du travail comme la pèche pour les régions côtières. Mais elles illustrent aussi les différentes festivités organisées tout au long de l’année à travers l’archipel. Leurs origines sont souvent lointaines et troubles, seules les légendes dessinent quelques pistes.

Radio Alhara emerges in a time of isolation and boredom, a time where the future of the world as we know it remains unknown.

The project is inspired by Radio il Hai Beirut and Radio Alhuma Tunis, which were in turn inspired by Radio Quartiere Milano.

This is a communal radio station/program/project, it begins in Bethlehem and Ramallah, and aims to extend to other places in Palestine and throughout the world, an open platform for listening, adding, discussing, and chatting. So we can all go through this time of solitude while communicating and reminding each other of each other. We hope this is the beginning of a collective space that will continue once this worldwide crisis is over.

We won’t know all the ones who are listening, nor the ones who will be adding and broadcasting, such is this digital situation we are living in now. But we send hope and courage to everyone, and we tell you: See you soon!
