🌀 Wanton Hymns for the Vortex-Bound 🌀

this time we buckl up and wobl thru spirals of jealousy and doubt..

these tracks have haunted me since their first sessions nearly two years ago, when i dove deep into micro-editing to 'prove' that i could match the skills (and patience) of those i look up to. i guess it's fitting that since they were born of negativity, they still don't feel enough - but it's time to let go of the envy and share where i'm at, instead of obsessing on where i could be at :)

for fans of Actual Dance Music, Acomb's Laundry Drum returns with two dub-hyphenated remixes, casting the green eyed demons back to the depths from whence they came ⛏️

it feels scary to share these tracks, imperfect as they are (and could only ever be), but also important to be honest about some of the darker sides of life as an artist

From the depths of braingunk come four fruity chunks of Dance Music!

Amongst these are the first tracks I wrote after/while getting sober mid-2021, my mind a mess of melted synapses and self-inflicted flashbacks (oop)

Summer is Dance Music Season so here are some fizzy takes on it, with inspiration from East Coast US club music, Croydon dub and our late Mother, S.X. (whose passing I was very much still processing at the time)

The music is saccharine enough so I'll cut this here - pls dive deep into the sugar rush and swallow whole the transgendered syrup mix

Cosmic trippers from Bakk Heia’s Schuttle, DJ Subaru, Cheap Thrill and NTS mainstay and all round Sheffield legend Ashley Holmes.

MPC goodness comes from Leeds favourites and Cosmic Slop residents bossDADDY and billy2chips.

Two slices of evil algorithmic beat science from Algorave affiliated Eye Measure and Sheffield’s Sleepsang.

A special cover version of one of the best pop tunes ever made, designed to induce chaotic hands-in-the-air up euphoria comes from modular magician Jorg Kuning.

And a cathartic anthem from long time friend and collaborator takenbymarshall.

The compilation is topped off with a gorgeous slice of heavenly synth-pop from MCR based Infant, because real dancefloor hooligans are soft and tender and aren’t afraid to shed a couple tears at the afters!


About Gut Level:

Gut Level is a not-for-profit collective, community space & venue based in Sheffield. Starting off as a DIY nightclub in 2019, we've spent the last 4 years transforming unused ex-industrial spaces into cosey and cretionous queer autonomous zones, with activity that spans club nights, workshops, socials, communal meals and community activism. At the moment we're fundraising to renovate a recently secured permanent mixed use creative and social space in the heart of Sheffield, creating a members club and social space for the queers, angels and party freaks of Sheffield.

Narrado desde un dialecto propio de la costa norte colombiana con ligero sazón de spanglish , tetona es oda a la promiscuidad con elementos jocosos  que no simplifican el lenguaje y la naturaleza de los encuentros casuales, dando importancia al contexto y a la naturaleza de sus personajes.

Originally released as part of Catartsis & Ōtone’s “Mechanical Gesture” split EP in 2020 on Obscuur Records and reissued as a 12” record in 2021, Ōtone’s “Slice” has since been summoned into the sets and ears of a myriad of DJs and dancers. Today the track’s distinctive slitting timbres are back with eight remixes, each playfully shaping the original cut into unique percussive hybrids. The result is an eclectic gathering of breakbeat, techno, and hyperpop chimaeras through which recordings of cutting engines swirl anew thanks to the craft of Sister Zo, Go Hiyama, Lara David, Yogg, Neve, and Catartsis.
