Next baby step in my experimentation in the electronic realm...  This is a simple original tune about creating your own reality.  It all started with a little bass line stuck in my head.  I wrote the lyrics and started recording the track about a year ago.  Finally got around to mixing it to the best of my ability.  Super huge thanks to DJ Sid (http://soundcloud.com/el-cid) for creating the beat.  

Best experienced on headphones/ bass-friendly speakers... volume up.  :)   

I would love some feedback, especially mixing tips and suggestions on what would be the most appropriate tags for genre.

This conscious dance set is loosely based on the set I played live for the Asheville Movement Collective on June 14th, 2019.

The intention of the set centers on the lesson I learned while traveling in 2016 to India, Bali, and Berlin in search of my beloved. On my journey I discovered the meaning of Love (in India), Courage (in Bali), and Freedom (in Berlin). As is so often the case, the beloved I was so desperately looking for in another was there inside of me all along.

The set follows the classic "wave," progressing through several genres and movements of music (Flow/Staccato/Chaos/Lyrical/Stillness) with the BPM's climbing from 60 to a peak of 125 and then coming down gracefully to a soft landing of 56 bpms.

Asheville Movement Collective - 2019 Summer Solstice Mix

Thank you Devi and Finn for inviting me to play for the MCDC family. Such a special event. I prerecorded the set earlier the same day, after working on the 2 wave arrangement all morning. The intention was around the theme of connecting the energy of the Appalachian mountains with the Island of Maui, as this was a home coming of sorts with my return to Maui from Asheville, NC.

This set is loaded with music from Asheville, the Beloved Festival in Oregon, and songs that majestically bring back memories of Dance Church Maui.

I always love dancing in the Makawao Union Church Community with the MCDC family. Such sweet nectar. Thank you to all those who came and left their sweat on the dance floor.

Mountains to Sea - Maui Conscious Dance Collective - Wed, Sept 11, 2019 - 2 waves

"Holding Together" denotes a time for creating union with others in order to help one another. Imagine the element of water coming from the sky to assist the earth after a period of drought. So too, can your dance come to assist you and bring vitality and hope to your body, mind and soul. So too, can your dance with community assist you in feeling supported, witnessed, and held. When everything wants to fall apart, lean into letting go, and let your sacred union with dance bring it all back together.

This set was played originally for an online dance at the Asheville Movement Collective, and then I re-recorded it the day after and swapped out a few songs. This is actually my 5th recording of the set, and I'm finally satisfied with the track progression and happy to share it with the world. After each revision I get feedback from dancers and I dance to the set as well to see how it works. I've found this iterative feedback process really elevates the quality of the mix, although it is time consuming. About 40 hours goes into each mix I produce.

We had dancers join us for this practice from Asheville, Maui, Bali, Florida and Boulder. I drew inspiration for the intention above from the I Ching or Book of Changes.

Synergy Sound - Journey Into Wayward Lands

You are invited to take a moment to contemplate what it means to embody receptivity. In what ways can you embrace and accept what is happening in your life? What can you feel going on in your body, mind, and emotions? Be receptive to it all, and allow the energy to flow into your dance. Often times it is through surrender and receptivity that a clear path forward is provided.

This set was played for Asheville Movement Collective's Sunday morning dance on May 16th. There's a lot of bird medicine in this set through the lyrics of a couple of songs. I didn't plan it out that way, it just happened. 

And so on the day of the dance, while we danced outside in my yard, of course, feeling our call a hawk circled us as Deya Dova's song "Return of the Bird Tribes" began, and then later during our closing circle as Shaunna was sharing her dance experience she noticed a hawk flying above her outside her house where she was dancing. And as she describes this to us all, my housemates and I saw our hawk return to circle above us! Praise the magic of our winged allies who help to sooth the winds of change that cross our skies. We love you!
