Techno Snobs January 2024

Rebecca Goldberg is a producer, live performer, DJ and graphic designer from Detroit. Since her debut EP release, 313 Acid Queen, she has been affiliated with the multidisciplinary arts collective, Detroit Underground. Rebecca is a seasoned radio DJ having mixed for FM and internet-radio shows hosted across the globe.

Goldberg has self-released music and multimedia projects ranging from Detroit techno to experimental/avant-garde electronic music. She tours internationally as a DJ and live performer and has been featured at notable events from Movement Electronic Music Festival to Tresor in Berlin. Unconfined by genre, Rebecca has written original scores for classic films, “Le Voyage Dans La Lune” and “Gojira,” which included live performances at Silencio, David Lynch’s members-only club in Paris, and Armageddon Beachparty in Detroit.

In 2022 the New BBC Radiophonic Workshop released a selection of field recordings she took throughout her native Michigan for their Travel Agency project. For her live performance she focuses on sound design and the unpredictable capabilities of working with electronic instruments. In early 2023 she produced a live show called Upphljómun to showcase live performances from herself and Icelandic electronic artists during the Reykjavik Winter Lights Festival. Her most recent EP on Detroit Underground, TROIS CENT TROIS, was featured on Bandcamp’s “New and Notable” releases and is available to order worldwide. Returning to the show for our New Year's Special 2024, Chandler Altman is a multidisciplinary dj and producer behind the helm of the Assorted Sounds imprint drawing from almost a decade behind the decks. Based out of Orlando, Florida - he has a passion for delivery of a sonic experience that transcends a genre and allows for a fluid exploration of the space between sounds. 

With mixes that are typically high-octane grooves laden with acid, synth elements, mental twists, ambient soundscapes, and rich storytelling, Chandler finds himself most comfortable with 3 or 4 tracks in the mix at all times to help craft a custom experience each and every time where no two sets are identical. 

Main goal:

Leave the listener with something that sticks with them long after the last kick drum rings from their ears.

bacteria grl, an emerging DJ from Eora/Sydney, has swiftly made her mark in the local music scene since her debut in late 2023, delving into the harder realms of techno. 

Although new to music scene, she confronts gender biases that resonate from her STEM background. 
Enduring comments on opportunities and gender, she challenges assumptions about the ease of her journey, refusing to let them undermine her hard work. Undeterred, she persists in her mission to break down gender stereotypes in both the world of music and STEM.

During the course of this project, bacteria grl engaged in profound self-reflection, aiming to inspire others to do the same.

“If you’re a DJ,  I encourage you to consider your latest sets… Did your selection of tracks reflect a balance of diversity and gender equality? 

My own revelation hit hard – my sets were unintentionally disproportionately male-centric. It’s easy to fall into this pattern, especially when our charts predominantly feature male artists.”

Committing to change, bacteria grl has pledged to conscientiously curate gender-balanced track lists, aspiring to contribute to a music scene where gender equality becomes the norm. bacteria grl highlights that DJs have a powerful platform where track selections not only shape the dance floor but also influence the future of our industry.
