Growing up in Queens, Hip Hop music was an integral part of my daily life. From a very young age, I was hooked by the lyrics, the beats, and the overall attitude of the industry. When I was eleven, the Slim Shady LP mistakenly made its way into my life, in the form of a gift from my mother, who had no idea that her gift would end up changing my life. As I listened to the album on repeat, memorized all the words, and rapped along in the mirror, I felt like a superstar. I felt like I belonged. I realized then, that there was no looking back. I was enthralled and I wanted to make my own music. Music that would maybe one day change someone else's life, the way it changed mine. 
I started writing poems and short rhymes - it was as if writing my feelings and thoughts down, was easier than expressing them out loud. I moved to the suburbs of New Jersey when I was thirteen, but the love I had developed for Hip Hop and it's raw urban character, stayed with me. My adolescent and teenage years presented many obstacles. My family moved around a lot, so even though I made a lot of friends, I never felt like I fit in or belonged. My parents' marriage ended in divorce. At the age of eighteen, I lost my father to addiction. I never felt like I had stability. Music seemed to be the only consistent and stable part of my life. No matter what I faced in life, music was always my escape. No matter the issue or the emotion, music was the remedy. 
Music has been helping people for generations, and as I grew older, I realized what all the great artists before me had realized - I wanted to make music that would provide an escape for others and help them through difficult times. I wanted to write about what I knew, so I began to write songs with messages that I would want to hear myself. I believed that it was more important to write about real life, real people, real problems. I didn't want to be another rapper consumed in the materialism and superficiality of talking about money, cars, and clothes. There are enough artists who do that and chase fame. I have always looked up to and have been inspired by artists like Tupac, Biggie, and Eminem  - artists who are known and remembered for addressing real issues, saying what has to be said, and telling it like it is, unapologetically.  I don't want to just be famous. I want to be remembered.
