This selection of ambient works originated as part of a score for a yet-to-be-released documentary ‘My Friend Louie’. The film explores the life of Louie, a 19-year old trans woman living in Brazil, as she reconnects with her mother and brother at a pivotal moment in her life. It also details the friendship that develops between filmmaker Kyle Morrison, and Louie in the aftermath of their trip, as he works on regaining his sobriety, and she takes the first steps towards living fully as a woman.

“I felt a deep attachment to these pieces and wanted to release them in hopes that others would connect with them too. The cues I had written were all quite short so I decided to expand them for this EP – creating a deeper world for the music while not losing sight of the original inspiration. There is such a range of emotions in the film, from grief and regret to wistfulness and exuberance, and I attempted to capture all of that in the score.”

Moody analogue pads blend with textured pianos to provide the core of these pieces. Solitude and isolation are channeled through both the music and the visuals they have been paired with. For this release, Kackley traveled to a remote area of Canada in the middle of winter to record a live set and film the somber, barren landscape. These visuals highlight the push and pull of anguish and calm that characterize this EP and the initial source material that influenced it.

At the fresh age of 14, Chew Lay had a life changing experience at the height of the Old Skool and Jungle era (‘95-‘97) during a party at The Manor in Bournemouth. Blinded by the rush of his first ever rave, he knew from that moment onwards, he had to become a part of the growing jungle scene!

In 1999 he started his music career DJ-ing D’n’B which gave him a deeper understanding of the music scene and led him to explore his hidden talents of creating his own sounds and into the world of production. 

His sound has continued to change and evolve alongside his own personal growth and evolution journey which has come with its challenges and creativity blocks over the years and resulted in many unfinished tracks. But this time also allowed him to play around with producing different genres and figure out the direction he wanted his music to progress in. 

Fast forward to 2021 after a couple of years’ hiatus from production, Chew got inspired by his love for Melodic Breakbeat and House Music and with a fresh perspective and new wave of energy, he created and completed 12 tracks, each one with a totally unique sound and vibe! 

Chew is dedicated to creating tracks for the awakening masses that are up-lifting and euphoric but that also assist in the the evolution of human consciousness with his soon to be released meditation tracks.
