WORD! is the longest running and most established poetry and spoken word night in the Midlands.

Based at The Y Theatre, Leicester, it takes place on the first Tuesday of every month, between 8.00 and 10.30pm. The evening is composed of an open mic, followed by a booked act. 

Emmanuel Nwamadi, a Nigerian born singer/songwriter from East London, creates emotion-filled, soulful music infused with rock/grunge influences from bands such as Nirvana and Alice in Chains.

Emmanuel wowed audiences with his performance of “Sweetest Taboo” on The Voice UK, securing him a spot in the competition and into the finals. The young talent was mentored by British Rock band, Kaiser Chief’s lead singer Ricky Wilson. His audition received accolades being described as “unique, powerful and moving” reaching over 2 million views on YouTube. 

Emmanuel’s latest single “Blood On Snow” is featured on New Music Friday UK and New Music Friday Sweden.

Spoken word performer and poetry workshop leader. Agnes Török is a Swedish poet working and living in Edinburgh, the winner of multiple Poetry Slams in three different countries and two different languages. Török has been featured as a TED speaker, headlined at multiple international poetry festivals and been commissioned by the BBC. Her two one-woman spoken word shows 'Sorry I Don't Speak Culture' (2014) and 'If You're Happy and You Know It - Take This Survey' (2015) have both won awards at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
