This is my home now 
This is where I’ve landed after my life’s journey, somehow
And I know you’ll be back again as time allows 
But this is a place for quiet contemplation for now 

Wherever you go, wherever life may take you to

And I know that it’s hard to move on, to let go

A boy was brought to see the river 
He was his father’s only son

An understanding had begun.

Trust your instincts, trust your judgement, trust in all that you know you can learn.
Seize your chances, seize adventure, embrace each point from which there is no return. 

Then you don’t need to fear to tread
There beyond the shoreline 
Where there is no guideline
Guarantee or grand design.

The past has made the here and now  
Events, and all the lessons learned. 
It’s here you set the future 
With choices made and bridges burned.
Do you cling to the here and now?  
Or let go, have faith in drifting free, 
Believing time is like a river 
That will always find the sea?

What’s done is done
And there’s no changing how the past has gone 
Nowhere to run
We make the bed that we must lie upon 
Deep inside
We know there’s no escaping consequence 
No way to hide 
From guilt, regret and lost self-confidence 
It’s just a fact 
That to make mistakes is what we do
How we react 
And how we learn is how we can renew 

But for now... well you’ll blame, and you’ll cry
Until you can’t deny
You’ll feel shame, and you’ll cry
Try to find a reason why 
And you’ll rage, and you’ll cry 
Until the tears run dry
Disengage, and you’ll cry, cry

What’s done is done
And there’s no changing what has been and gone 
But what’s to come 
Well, in large part it all depends upon 
What you decide 
Comes next beyond the history  
How you decide 
What was, what is, and what should be
How you decide 
Just what your life, your future still can be  

But for now... well, you’ll blame, and you’ll cry

There were some dreams - it seems they’ve somehow all been thwarted
There were some good ideas, but plans were never sorted
There was a passion that was not allowed to thrive
There was a talent, but apparent lack of drive
There was a paucity that came as a surprise 
And in its aftermath, doubts began to rise

There they go, talking low, voices of the mind
On and on, never gone, voices of the mind
They trick you, they kick you, they trip you from behind 
And yet they’re nothing they’re just voices of the mind

There was the way of life that wasn’t over stressful
There was the smug façade of looking quite successful
But there were years that passed with nothing more to show 
And there were fears that were preventing letting go 
There was a comfort zone dictating all the choices 
Excuses so rehearsed, doubts were given voices

There they go, talking low, voices of the mind
On and on, never gone, voices of the mind
They mock you, they shock you, they chop you from behind 
They’re always haunting you, they leave you undermined 
They’re always taunting you, their words are so unkind
And yet they’re nothing they’re just voices of the mind

The ‘can do’, the ‘why not?’ are just too hard to find 
When they are drowned out by voices of the mind 

There is the scrutiny that follows self-awareness 
There is the self-reproach for self-applied unfairness
There is the hammer blow of seeing what went wrong 
There are attempts to find catharsis in a song 
There is the knowledge that there’s nowhere left to hide 
Fighting on a battlefield, enemies inside

There they go, talking low, voices of the mind

They mock you, they shock you, they chop you from behind 
They’re always haunting you, they leave you undermined 
They’re always taunting you, their words are so unkind
And they distract you and they try to make you blind 
Once they’ve attacked you you’re left feeling much maligned 
And yet they’re nothing they’re just voices of the mind

They tricked you, they kicked you, they tripped you from behind 
Controlled you, mis-sold you, they hold your life confined 

And yet they’re nothing, just voices of the mind

So we find ourselves crossing a line
Keeping fingers crossed, hoping everything will turn out fine
Never saw myself crossing this line 
Never thought about rules and roles we’d have to redesign  
New identities we must define 
Never thought about unexpected places fate can take us 
But hidden in the sunlight, the stars align
Start to cast the shadow of a line:

Standing at a crossroads, searching for a sign
Confronted by the future with no option to decline  
Standing at a threshold, staring at a line
Facing up to challenges and hoping we are not found wanting; not this time   
These things make us stronger and we know that we can shine
There will be summer days; you and I crossing a line. 

I keep a memory of crossing a line
Keeping fingers crossed, hoping everything would turn out fine
Never thinking how two lives combine 
To seal our destinies in ways that will forevermore entwine    
The essence of what’s yours and mine 
Never thinking of the many paths where this event could take us 
But coming into view, sending shivers down my spine 
There was a little blue line:

A space for letting go

For when the fractures show

Recapture that feeling and glow 
So this is where you go

For when you’re wanting more, or

Just for a re-set so you can start anew

Finding the words to easily capture
A feeling that only a few have explored 
Seeking the moment and caught in the rapture
Forming the phrases like the notes in a chord

Facing the paper, confronting my conscience
Doubting myself, but determined to try

Waiting, it felt like waiting
No participating 
Only spectating, and waiting
Waiting, endlessly waiting
But no locating a place to be

From a mess of my own making
Seemed doubts were taking a hold of me
All around the ground was shaking
Inside an aching
Everything breaking, breaking

Broken, it felt so broken
With words unspoken 
Dreams unawoken, and broken

Life just a token of what could be

So in need to reawaken
Confidence shaken, deserting me 
All my hopes, it seemed, were taken

I can’t believe
How all this time has gone by

Deep in sleep, but in your mind a scene appears
Suddenly it's taken you back through the years 
You’re in a place you know you’ve been before
Where it is, you’re still not sure
You reach out with your fingers and search inside your mind

Familiar views and feelings echo all around
An understanding lost in time is newly found

A child is walking here without a care 
You’re led by his footsteps, with him everywhere

It was never easy, it was never clear
But we always saw a way
An existential crisis never felt so near
As it does today
But now, somehow, we’ve left all sense behind
And so, we go, out of sight, out of mind
Down

Falling, falling deep into a rabbit hole
Who knows where it goes?
London calling nation in a rabbit hole
This is what you chose
Word from the top, from the press and plants on Question Time
You just need to believe
Get with the programme, enjoy the national pantomime  
Ask and you’ll receive 

Sunlit uplands, a show, a royal wedding dress
The Party is serving tea and scones and Eton mess 
The white cliffs of Dover bring tears to the eye 
More fool Britannia is waving goodbye 
Blue birds are crowing they took back control
Of a rabbit hole

 
Pragmatic choice and caution were the English way
Just keep calm and carry on
And through it all we always kept the wolves at bay
But now those days are gone
In deep, in sleep, we’re blind to a coup
In this place, a case of nightmares come true
For you

With lies of a prize of a bygone age 
The clowns and the conmen sell your soul

Mistakes of the past are repeated again
