Sonic 1 CD - Green Hill Zone “P” Mix

So there's a bit of a story behind this track and I have to be honest with myself. A while ago I made an act 2 version of my first original which as a reminder was burning determination. I kept finding ways to improve on what I had and loved it so much that I made an act 2 version just for fun titled "Relentless." 

After giving it some time and continuing to work on other projects, I hated it. I'm not trying to say that it was bad, it really isn't. The problem was that it didn't really fit the idea that I had in my head. Not to mention that it was very sloppy and wasn't giving the same level of quality that all of my other music had.

So I decided to scrap the idea and start over completely. For a while it was in my drafts collecting dust. I had no idea what to do with it. When I started Sonic 3: Reloaded, I wanted to repurpose my originals for the OST. So I took what was supposed to be a "Relentless V2" And used it for act 2 of Lava Reef. Then after that was decided I finally figured out where to take the song.

For act 2. I really drove into the mystically that the original song had. I really wanted to make this act feel important and stand out. I even went as far as to use a whole different time signature. The result was something that sounded familiar, but was so drastically different from  the first act that It sounds almost nothing like the original. Brace yourself for this one. Be prepared for a ride. If you took the time to read this little story of mine, I see you, and I appreciate you! ♥

Toad Town was always a very cozy place. It's fun to talk to all the different residents and get glimpses into their lives throughout your journey.

I haven't made a straight-up Paper Mario cover in a long time, so I thought it would be cool to return to form, so to speak. I reworked the percussion a little bit to be a better fit for NES sound, as the agogo-style percussion of the original wouldn't have translated as well. I still tried to make it fit the spirit of the original.

It also has a lot of arps, as you may have noticed. I'm generally not a fan of very arp-heavy arrangements, but I wanted the original chords to be represented. If I do another Paper Mario cover in the future, I'll try to pick a song that doesn't rely on chords as much.
