Finding Jaëll is an electroacoustic composition created in response to the C19th French composer Marie Jaëll and her work for solo piano "Feuillet d'Album" (1871). Using granulation and electronic processing techniques, the work considers the emotional reality of C19th gendered attitudes, self doubt and ambition. 

A sonic tapestry of manipulated piano recordings, vocal recordings, and spoken text from Jaëll’s correspondence detailing her frustrations and ambitions as a composer, the work aims to provide an insight into Jaëll’s experiences. As part of the ongoing PhD research project “Readdressing the Spectacle: Composing Connections Between Past Women and Living Women Composers” (Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, University of Birmingham, Midlands4Cities) the work also considers the ongoing relevance that the tension between doubt and ambition continue to have relevance for contemporary composers.

Chloe Knibbs is a composer exploring storytelling, theatricality and sidelined voices with a particular emphasis on feminist perspectives.  Included in the British Music Collection, her work includes compositions for opera and music theatre, orchestra, chamber music, art song and choir. Her music has been featured on BBC Radio 3 and performed by a number of ensembles including the Riot Ensemble, Birmingham Opera Company and Project Instrumental. Chloe's work has also received support from PRS Women Make Music Scheme and Jerwood Arts.
