Stones Throw & The Beat Junkies did a joint event that was put together by ArtDontSleep in the city of Los Angeles 3 weeks ago (10.26.13). it is the first time that Stones Throw & the Beat Junkies have joined forces to do a special event. Imagine Peanut Butter Wolf, Dam Funk, Prince Paul, Karriem Riggins, Rakaa Iriscience, LMNO, the Cypress Junkies, Jonwayne, & of course, the Beat Junkies all under one roof. On Friday February 7 2014 as Dj Premier was in Detroit performing at Dilla Day, I was filling in for Premier on his Sirius/Xm radio show "Live From Headqcourterz". Being that it was what would have been J-Dilla's 40th birthday I did an all Dilla set in my second hour honoring the late great Producer/MC/DJ. 
James "Jay-Dee", "J-Dilla" Yancey died in 2006 at the young age of 32 from cardiac arrest after a long battle with a rare blood disease.... 

He was one of the music industry's most influential and respected hip-hop artists.

After spending hours in my own crates due to this forthcoming sale, I got inspired, hopped on the decks and rocked a live 90 minute mix of soul, funk, library, jazz, disco, hip-hop, etc. There's joints and genres from all around the world. I went hard (pause) on the doubles at some points, and there's some instrumental/acapella blends up there too… 

This was an spur of the moment practice session that was never to be given to the public, just to listen to later for ideas… no playlists, no preparation… A few mates enjoyed it whom I sent it to and prompted me to get it out there… Please excuse all the sloppy mixes, cuts, etc. I wanted to keep it raw like the mixes of the 90's… feedback is appreciated.

A blendtape in celebration of Q-Tip's 50th birthday today.  His music has always been a huge influence in my life, so it's an honor to work with his team to present this surprise bday gift to him.

I always wanted to hear a full collab with Tip on the mic and Pete Rock on the boards, so I decided to make it myself.  I took Q-Tip's vocal's from the 'Amplified' album, and blended them with Pete's fire 'Return Of The SP1200' instrumental LP.
