Do you know those carefree summer evenings? Maybe just yesterday was one of them. When the air is warm, everything is calm, and the only sound is gravel under your feet as you walk an empty track across the fields. "Silence" is for that feeling.

I started working on it back in early spring, when evenings like that were still far away. Adding some of my own recordings (like birds chirping and the crackling of fire) already brought a sense of nostalgia and made those moments feel closer.

Musically, it’s simple: a few piano chords from an improvisation, layered with more piano and some airy synths. The atmosphere and most of the percussion come from everyday sounds: for example, a bicycle rack as a hi-hat, a watering can as a snare, and an incoming train turned into a riser.

The goal: music that feels like silence. I hope you enjoy.

LOST VILLAGE

For my friend from Shrewsbury – and for everyone who is there for others with love and strength.

The Way You Stay is a very personal song I originally wrote just for a close friend. After hearing it, he told me I should definitely release it – and so I did.

It tells about the importance of being there for each other – especially when life gets heavy.

It’s about the quiet strength of caring and the love that lies within those moments. About two people who carry each other and the closeness that grows from it.

But this song is not only for him – it’s for everyone who cares for others, quietly, steadily, and wholeheartedly.

A song about trust, friendship, and the strength that comes from staying.

Behind the music:
From the beginning I knew I wanted a choir in this song. I thought about it for a long time, wondering how it could work. In the end, I recorded more than 24 vocal tracks – all with my own voice – and processed them in such a way that the choir is made up of many little Axels.

I truly hope you enjoy listening to it.

The Way You Stay

The world was still asleep in the quiet moments before dawn when a polite knock interrupted the silence. When she reached the door, the only sign of a visitor was the faint sound of a carriage disappearing into the distance. On the porch was a single, ornate invitation, its wax seal still intact. As she broke the seal and opened the envelope, she felt a sense of curiosity and mystery. What lay inside was not simply an invitation, but a message that might just change her life forever.

Inspired by the poem "The Peace of Wild Things" by the American poet Wendall Berry.

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars

I make music because it is where I let go of the have-to’s, and become part of something larger than myself. The language I speak on the keyboard when I improvise expresses a part of me that only comes out there at the moment of creation - when I’m fully connected and in the flow. In those moments when I disappear in the music, those are where I’m most fully alive. The musical question I pose to myself when I play is largely this: how can I release my inhibitions and let go of patterns sufficient to bring something entirely new, unexpected, and enlightening into the world, with structure, precision, clarity, and depth of expression. These pieces are meditations that are of me, but more precisely, they come through me. When I’m in the flow, I’m channeling the energy and only moderately directing it. The challenge is to be open to take risks while maintaining a structure, melody, and tempo that makes it interesting and satisfying enough to keep listening. I keep doing this nightly because it’s a language, because it’s a connection to something greater than myself, and because it’s very very relaxing.
