"Tea with Debussy & Pärt in Casablanca" is a musical dream that bloomed during my vacation in Havana, Cuba. Inspired by classical masterpieces from Arvo Pärt and Claude Debussy, I envisioned an imaginary encounter with these esteemed composers in Casablanca, over Moroccan tea.

Commissioned by a dear friend and talented violist Vincent Delorme, this piece is not an imitation of their styles but rather a heartfelt conversation between us. It embodies the essence of typical conversations in Morocco, where we all speak at the same time, meandering from topic to topic, and experiencing numerous changes of atmospheres, tempi, textures, and fragments of thematic material.

It begins with minimalist touches, a nod to Pärt's recent works, where the piano introduces serene arpeggios, intertwining with heartfelt viola melodies. As we delve into our tea time, I incorporate some of Debussy's harmonic vocabulary. 

Throughout our harmonious dialogue, the piece mirrors the dynamic nature of conversations in Morocco. We experience moments of collective excitement, where the music swells with vibrant textures and lively tempi, as if everyone is speaking at once. Themes and motifs emerge and intertwine, mirroring the meandering nature of our discussion as we navigate from one topic to another.

As our musical journey unfolds, our collaboration celebrates cultural fusion, weaving together Pärt, Debussy, and my artistic zest. Each voice contributes to the narrative, inviting moments of wonder and contemplation through our shared inspirations.

When Noses Start to Bleed by Jeremias Langsämmer is a striking modern classical composition that merges the warmth of orchestration with a subtle electronic pulse. Anchored by a melodic synth line, the piece unfolds with layers of strings, cello, and piano, creating a moody, contemplative atmosphere. French horns lend a sense of gravitas, gradually intensifying the piece’s emotional pull. Midway, a playful interlude emerges with pizzicato violins, bringing a momentary lightness before the arrangement shifts back to its rich, layered soundscape, blending the acoustic and synthetic elements in a compelling and dramatic finish.

Chris Drabble, based in the Northwest of England, is a rock guitarist who has over 50 years of playing experience.
With nearly 50K streams on SoundCloud in the last 12 months being a mixture of Guitar Rock and softer Ambient instrumental tracks, Chris is now ramping up his rock guitar work with his latest album ‘Foot to the Floor’, which harks back to his youth when rock guitar tracks had a catchy opening riff, and was the sort exciting music you felt you had to tap your foot to. 
His influences include Rush, Led Zeppelin, The Police, Simple Minds, Pink Floyd, Joe Satriani and Jimi Hendrix. He is currently listening to Porcupine Tree, Dream Theatre.
