This classic Grateful Dead song has been a favorite of JJ's since his playing in a bar band days, decades ago. Therefore, he decided to come up with a perfect, lively skeleton on his piano for us to use for it, and shared it with us. Josh, being a Deadhead as well, jumped on the chance to play Phil's part on his four string fretless bass. Ken, who isn't necessarily a Deadhead, but can play most anything, jumped on with his driving drums around the same time as Josh added his bass line, as they went back and forth a few times before getting the rhythm section settled. 
  Stephen came along next with his cunning rhythm guitar, follow closely by his solo for the solo section. JJ added his solo for that section right after Stephen had laid his part down. Then we turned it over to James to add his rich, accent-drenched vocals. 
  When we had all the parts down, we turned it over to James (or Stephen) to produce and mix for us, which he did in expert fashion.
  This song was a lot of fun for the Deadheads in the band and non-Deadheads alike to record. This is also the second collaboration done by James and the Eclectic Collective, and we all enjoyed having him on this project.
  We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

This song began as a well developed, funky disco idea Roy came up with on his guitar, and shared with JJ. JJ added a wonderfully complex orchestration of various keys (including the sax solo you hear towards the end.    JJ invited Stephen first, who came up with the funky ass wah guitar that also carries the groove. 

Of course, JJ realized that this is a disco song, so he enlisted Ken to come up with one of his awesome beats to carry it along. 

JJ had a rudimentary bass line that he played himself, but decided to get Josh to do the honors instead. So, Josh came up with a totally new bass line designed to shake your cheeks. 

Once it was in the can, we decided to ask JJ to mix it for us. This is a first time JJ has mixed a song for The Eclectic Collective, and we were all impressed with his work. Stephen mastered it, as he is a master masterer.    

We're all really impressed and delighted with the experience of working with Roy and his music. He is a very talented artist with a lot of great music to check out on his page, too.   We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it, and that it makes you shake your hips while you're doing the dishes, too!

This track was originally written while living in supported housing ( Madeleines )  in Harlow in Essex in the early to mid 00's . I originally penned the chord progression , melodies and lyrics to the verses .  My good friend James Gormley then wrote melodies and lyrics for the chorus parts , and also features on the recording . This track was recorded at Riverway Studios in Harlow in Essex after completing my level four first year of my Bachelor of science award / degree for ' Songwriting & Artist Development ' at the university of Hertfordshire . The track was engineered and produced by studio owner Jim White throughout the summer vacation of 2025 .

We hope you enjoy this instrumental version of our song Rise.  It may surprise you to know that, other than the computer-generated drum sounds,  there are no keyboards or synthesisers: all of the sounds were created with electric and bass guitars!
