Hotflush unveils its second release of 2015 in the form of a collaborative single between label mainstay Locked Groove and ascendant Italian duo Mind Against.

With both acts coming off the back of triumphant finishes to 2014 - the success of Locked Groove's huge Enigma EP and Mind Against's surge into #33 position in Resident Advisor's 2014 DJ poll - 'Elysium / Pulsar' marks the first time the producers have collaborated. The end result combines Locked Groove's punchy, dancefloor-ready aesthestic and the emotionally resonant melodics that Mind Against have made their signature since breaking through with Life And Death in 2013.

Locked Groove Boiler Room x Cubanisto Antwerp DJ Set

With episode one from brand curators Tale Of Us encapsulating their hugely successful Afterlife events and record label, the second offering in the exploratory concept’s mix series sees Vaal embark on an intrepid ‘Voyage’ of her own - which is now available to listen via Soundcloud.  

Having already appeared on the Afterlife imprint for a soulful and lamenting three-track EP named ‘Wander to Hell’ last October, Vaal’s offering for Voyage 002 keeps with the possessive spirit of Afterlife and traverses techno where others retreat. In this fittingly free-feeling 100-minute mix, Vaal conjures up the emotions that saturate her minimal style; “equally human, equally electronic”, resulting in an experience that’s always arresting and deeply affecting.

A regular guest of Afterlife as it tours - recent dates include a UK debut and showcases in Miami for Art Basel as well as Mexico - Vaal earmarks herself as a rising talent in 2017 and one that is not scared to experiment.

Carl Cox is an industry figurehead who’s legacy in music includes his iconic label Intec, which he runs with friend and business partner Jon Rundell.

This new release is from Drumcomplex & Roel Salemink who since their first appearance on the label in 2014 have been two of Intec’s most popular artists.

Collaboratively the pair has also released music on Bush Records, Bulletdodge and Marco Bailey’s label MB Elektronics, and although both are respected solo artists in their own right, many would argue that their collaborative releases are some of their most exquisite.

Drumcomplex & Roel Salemink last Intec release picked up support from the likes of Sasha Carassi, Hollen, La Fleur plus Luigi Madonna, and this storming follow up has been highly anticipated.

“Blacklight” is focuses on raw percussion and a bubbling acid line which leads the track. Dark and aggressive with a thickset sound, it moves with the momentum of a tidal wave. Powerful and precise, this precision engineered Techno cut has an explosive drop after the main break, where words cannot describe the intense excitement it creates on a dancefloor.

“Syncronised” has a raw and pulsating bassline which drives the track with ferocious tension that builds relentlessly. Claps burst through the mix with dramatic force, and fast flowing hi-hats combine with the melody of the lead synth to create a captivating groove full of menace. Peak time Techno perfect for the club, this weapon should be packed in every DJ’s arsenal.

HYuta started his career in 2004 as a key person in Japanese Goa/Psychedelic trance scene and sparked the Goa Trance revival of Japan. He is active not only as a DJ, but is also well-known as an organizer, label A&R, and booking manager. He approaches the Nu Goa/Acid trance and techno sound from many directions to reach his audience’s spirit with depth.
Yuta works alongside the great DJ Tsuyoshi Suzuki at Matsuri Digital to deliver the Nu Goa Sounds from Japan to the world as psychedelic art and as an icon of the party scene in Japan. Since September 2016, Yuta started the new psychedelic techno label Liquid Drop Groove, whose concept is “A ripple-like space and soundwave that a single drop brings to the water surface.”
In addition to his work with Matsuri Digital and Liquid Drop Groove, Yuta is supporting and producing a number of parties domestically and worldwide. He recently formed his new project, Matsuri Beats Booking Agency, and as a DJ/Artist himself Yuta is signed to Sonic Bookings in Israel, in addition to becoming a member of Marcus Henriksson (Minilogue)’s agent Reshape Booking Agency in Sweden.

As a DJ, Yuta is performing energetically at everything from big-name festivals to underground parties, such as Nagisa Music Festival, Harukaze, Mother, Re:birth Festival, rural, Space Gathering, Mind of Vision and Dommune in Japan. Additionally, he has played in Mexico; Goa and Bangalore in India; Shiva Moon & Black Moon After in Koh Phangan, Thailand; Eclipse Festival in Indonesia and Australia; Return to the Source in UK; VUUV in Germany; Transylvania Calling in Romania; Y-Productions in Hungary; Nova’s Incident and Old is Gold in Belgium; Psy Fi Festival in Netherlands; Woodstower Festival in France; Neverland festival and Psilosiva in Israel, and others. Yuta’s stable and unique DJ style has received positive feedback from the local and international party crowd. Di.fm and Dice Radio have also featured Yuta and brought him attention from a borderless audience.

In May 2015, Yuta released a compilation album Matsuri Tribe, which includes tracks from number of artists whose fame rings around the world, as well as Yuta and Asteroidnos aka Makio’s joint project “Rezonance Mood”. As Rezonance Mood, he creates music with analog synths and proposes a new sound that fuses the Techno groove and Goa sound.

Having travelled alone in Asia and reached the realization that “Life = psychedelic”, he is on a mission to continue his work with the concept of “reforming consciousness.

This week´s #AMFM is the second hour of my set that I played on August the 12th at Sunny Beach, a Bulgarian beach on the Black Sea… Well the actual venue is called Cacao Beach, quite a beautiful place with an amazing sunrise in the morning. It had been a pretty intense, fun and long day before we headed out to Bulgaria, cause it was on the same day of the great Swiss Streetparade in Zürich where I played on a float with Dice. A fun day, but also a little demanding with regard to sleep and activity. The plan was to play 5h at Cacao Beach, from 2-7 am, so into the sunrise. Shortly after we got to the venue, the promoter told us, that the government is regularly checking the sound levels of all places on the beach and that I had to play at around 90 dB for the most part. For those of you not familiar with levels, in a club it is relatively normal to have about 100-120 dB. So when I started a little delayed (this is why the whole set is only about 4h and 40min long) I tried to make the best out of it and luckily the crowd was very understanding and we ended up having a real good night/morning. Well you can judge yourself by checking out the set. One major reason for me to upload the set to #AMFM was, that those who were there should be able to have the opportunity to listen again… and loud… enjoy..

This week´s #AMFM is the second hour of the set that I played at @pachabarcelona on September 10th, a Sunday night. Of what I heard, the busiest Sunday ever so far at Pacha Barcelona. Well, let´s not gimme the whole credit for that (although my DJ ego would love that), there also was a public bank holiday on Monday … still - what a crowd and what a vibe! @flug played a great opening set and I think I could have gone on for hours and hours to be honest. Anyways, in the end it was a 4,5h set and you will be able to relive it within these 4 weeks now. Barcelona rocks! Muchas Gracias!

Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
