Tresor (German for safe or vault) is an underground techno nightclub in Berlin and a record label.

History:

The club was founded in March 1991 in the vaults of the former department store Wertheim at Leipziger Strasse 126-128 in Mitte, the central part of East Berlin, next to the Potsdamer Platz. The history of the club goes back to 1988 when the electronic music label Interfisch opened the Ufo Club in Berlin. Ufo was the original centre of Berlin house and techno, but due to financial problems that club closed in 1990.
After Ufo closed, Interfisch's head, Dimitri Hegemann, and some investors in the club found the new space in East Berlin. This was advantageous timing, as it was only a few months before Germany unified. The vaults under the Wertheim department store proved to be the perfect location for a club, and Tresor quickly became the place to be in Berlin. Tresor continued to be a popular club, having expanded and reconstructed continuously several times to include an outdoor garden area, and a second "Globus" floor. The Tresor floor in the basement was reserved specifically for hard techno, industrial and acid music, while Globus was featured mainly more mellow house sound. The record label Tresor Records was founded soon after the club first opened, in October 1991. Featured artists on the label include Jeff Mills, Blake Baxter, Juan Atkins, Robert Hood, Drexciya, Stewart Walker, Joey Beltram, DJ Surgeon, Pacou, Cristian Vogel and many others.
In 2004 the documentary "Tresor Berlin: The Vault & the Electronic Frontier" was released. Directed by Mike Andrawis, it features interviews with Hegemann, Carola Stoiber, and DJs & artists associated with the club & label. The film covers the period from Hegemann's involvement with the Fishladen and UFO clubs in Berlin-Kreuzberg to the final months prior to Tresor's closure.
Tresor closed on 16 April 2005, after several years' prolonged short-term rent. The city sold the land to an investor group to build offices on the Leipziger Straße location. It was open for each night of April 2005, with the final event starting the Saturday night with queues stretching all the way down the road, and still going Monday morning.
Tresor reopened on 24 May 2007 in the decommissioned southern tract of the combined heat and power plant Heizkraftwerk Berlin-Mitte in Köpenicker Straße. 
Since November 2019 the club has a subsidiary in the city of Dortmund called Tresor.West. 
In September 2022, Tresor published a photobook, Tresor: True Stories, to document the past 30 years of its history.

Releases on R&S Records, work as an sound engineer for the likes of Derrick May, appearances all over the world… In 1994 finally he started his Project „The Advent“ together with ex partner Colin Mc Bean.
Besides touring the world over, Cisco also leads his own imprint Kombination Research.

Today we go back in time for 10 years again, to a well known club in Berlin, where I celebrated the 10 Years Anniversary of my label CLR, and guess what - also played for 10 hours. Can´t believe that this is already 10 years ago really. Still kind of remember that night/day very well, especially the magic moments during the party and also very specially at the end, when I played that DJ Hell track. With me on that night playing were Traversable Wormhole, @sanhajimastering Brian Sanhaji, @tommyfourseven_47 and @monoloc_official  until I finished off the night/day with my closing set. These are memories that are ingrained in my brain and I surely hope we can soon do this again. So this week it´s the seventh hour of this set. All the rest will be coming on a weekly basis, as you all know by now I guess. Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
