GIT Podcast Session 25 # Levy Into The Mix

Artist Info:
Jorge and Natan have had a life of experiences together and from the very beginning they were passionate about experimentalism in its totality. They entered the underground electronic scene with no introduction and got to know each stage intensely, until they were part of this movement completely.

This project creation is based on a passion coming directly from the tracks where they present a performance full of noises, unexpected sounds and obscure structures.

Jorge has eccentric and striking features, from his fixation by distorted and frantic sounds to brutal and violent beats. Natan, on the other hand, is impressed by the unique, by the interruption of very high beats full of strength with deep, immense breaks and dramatic melodies.

Owners of a striking and aggressive look, they let all this visual aggression represent itself in their sounds and transitions.

The combination of these two different (though completely complementary) personalities, results in an intense experience that promises sensations which vary from the highest level of aggressiveness to the total exemption of any noise.

Being part of the scene since its first stages, both of them contribute intensively to the Dark scenario of the southern region of Brazil (Santa Catarina).

In addition to being involved with all the cultural movement above, today they are also co-founders of the Phobia Project nucleus.

TEGRON is a musical project focused on Techno, Hard, Dark, Raw and Industrial music, combining these sounds and visual characteristics with its origins based on the experiences of Nathan and Jorge, the artists.

But I guess in order to really understand this club that opens at 2 am, serves no alcohol and closes at some point next day, you have to go and experience it, especially that incredible custom made sound system. This place is all about sound and dance. This is the second hour of the recording of a night in February 2018, when I played kind of a 6h set, so expect the next few shows to be all about Stereo... I cannot wait to be back… hope you enjoy the show.

The former Weplayminimal Booking, based in Frankfurt and Berlin, launched in 2010, is an international booking agency operating for various artists of the techhouse – techno genre. Our young and upcoming artists are our credo. With their music activities and individual being they are our top priority.

By M.in’s track on Play It Down „I am my favourite freak“, the idea for a different kind of freakshow was born in Summer 2011. With letting our mind wander, creating a construct as fundation, which now represent a series of events, label and booking at the same time. „My Favourite Freaks“ is meant to be a community of like-minded people who spur their own thing – just good music – on.

Let´s travel back in time again. I hope you like these excursions to the past. September 1st 2014. Monday, Ibiza. Amnesia. Cocoon. That should tell you basically all you need to know. It is nice to use these times to travel back a little and remember the amazing summers we had, especially on the white isle of Ibiza. Cocoon always played a big part of that, the first time I played at Amnesia was in 1999, which was the first (pre) season for Cocoon hosted by Sven Väth, who essentially paved the way on the island for techno, which was unheard of really before that time. Those gigs at Amnesia were always very special for me, I loved the club and the DJ booth, the light jockey, who never spoke one word of English and me no Spanish, but we were always super happy to see each other and work together. I hope one day I will be able to return to that DJ booth and experience all that again. This set is a little longer than 3 hours and if you wanna have the full set without me talking, you might wanna check my Mixcloud Select channel for more. This week I go back in time again, this time to the year 2015, location Edinburgh. What an insanely beautiful town. Actually I cannot tell you many stories about that night, but I watched some videos and that reminded me once more how much I miss playing in front of you and what an amazing history I also have with the United Kingdom. I chose this set, because when I just read some comments about my last AMFM, someone mentioned "how about a set from the Arches in Glasgow", so I was digging through some hard disks and only found one where the left channel was missing, damn I though, but then I stumbled upon this one here. A two hours set that I played for the 6th Birthday of La Belle Angles in Edinburgh and since I didn´t post a set from the UK for a while, this one seemed to be the perfect fit. Here´s the second and last hour of the set, hope you enjoy that little trip back in time. Please, universe, let us do this again soon! In the meantime I keep digging on olds hard disks…

Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
