Long ago. In a galaxy far away...  so it seems by now at least, the Droid Behaviour crew around my friend and @DJsandBeers co-host Drumcell organised an amazing CLR showcase party in LA, on the 21st of July 2012 to be exact. Drumcell, Truncate (back then as “Audio Injection) and our friend Dean Paul were playing alongside myself in that incredible night (see pics in the post). Even DJ Hyperactive was dancing :) Legends all around. The Droid crew are famous for their Interface parties, all amazing productions and locations, sometimes legal and sometimes illegal. Actually the first event I played for them was back in 2009 and I remember when Moe aka Drumcell  (who I met that night for the first time in person) told me proudly that none of their illegal warehouse parties did ever get busted.. well guess what happened at that night in 2009, haha. It was a start of a long lasting friendship and collaboration and I was super happy that they were willing to also throw a CLR showcase party in 2012 in LA. If you know me, you know the love I have for that city and all my friends living there. Btw, in 2013, Drumcell released his outstanding and timeless album “Sleep Complex” on CLR. I highly recommend checking this out, as it is still as fresh and valid today, as it was on its day of release. And another btw, this year will be the re-launch of CLR, which went into hibernation for some years while I was working on my albums for Mute Records, "Burn Slow", released in 2018 and the next one, which will also be out this year. Mark Reeve, 12 years old, gets infected with the electronic virus. UK is in Techno-Rave fever with breaks, beats and bass. Mark concentrates on the harder Techno sound of London's funky vibes, then develops his own style. At the age of 16, he starts to play regularly as a club DJ. His passion for juicy electric sound then knew no borders.


In the middle of the 90's the Reeves move to Germany - a new start for the young DJ. Mark starts to visit clubs like The Omen and extends his horizon by the sound played in Frankfurt (Germany) by Sven Väth, Ricardo Villalobos and others. His homebase sound remains tech house and techno with groovy rhythms and bang out beats and most importantly, that hip swinging touch.

In 2011 “the big year” Mark releases his first EP on Cocoon Recordings and “Daybreak On Mars” gets its first spin by Cocoon boss himself Sven Väth. Not only the leading track had heavy support from Väth and others but also “Lichtkleid” got its heavy plays by non other than Minus icon Richie Hawtin.

2012, Mark teamed up with Pig & Dan, which has proved to be an amazing partnership. Soma Records was the first label to finish the final step and release the first EP, which is available now. Mark will also be releasing his “Dice” EP on Soma Records in May which makes everything complete. In addition to his EP on Soma Records Mark will also be releasing on one of the biggest techno labels that has been around for more than 16 years Adam Beyer´s Drumcode. His Debut single on Drumcode is planed for the 8th of October 2012 and is called "Drumatics". Also closely followed in November 2012 with his second EP called "With Us" for Sven Väth´s Cocoon Recordings.

2015, The year that changed everything. After his First Hit "Drumatics" On Drumcode a Number one Hit Followed At The end of The year ! His Second EP On Adam Beyer's Drumcode made it to The number one Spot On Beatport. Not only "Run Back" But also "Exposure" Made it to second Position which made this EP Probably the best Mark Has ever Done.

Not only can his original tracks be heard, but also remix projects have been started and finished from Extrawelt,Dusty Kid, Sian, Justin Berkovi, Marco Bailey, Dosem, Gary Beck, Arnaud Le Texier and Moonbeam - just to name a few.

Mark is known as a non stop DJ. As an artist, he has now had his most important releases on cult label, Cocoon Recordings, Drumcode, Soma, Bek Audio, Traumschallplatten, Trapez, Herzblut and Bedrock. His tracks are always a mixture between dancefloor moovers - including groovy rhythms - and big basslines.

Today we go back in time for 10 years again, to a well known club in Berlin, where I celebrated the 10 Years Anniversary of my label CLR, and guess what - also played for 10 hours. Can´t believe that this is already 10 years ago really. Still kind of remember that night/day very well, especially the magic moments during the party and also very specially at the end, when I played that DJ Hell track. With me on that night playing were Traversable Wormhole, @sanhajimastering Brian Sanhaji, @tommyfourseven_47 and @monoloc_official  until I finished off the night/day with my closing set. These are memories that are ingrained in my brain and I surely hope we can soon do this again. So this week it´s the seventh hour of this set. All the rest will be coming on a weekly basis, as you all know by now I guess. Another legendary club that closed down too soon in 2015, Vessel was a beautifully designed club in the middle of San Francisco, with a top notch sound system. I always loved to play there, especially open to close sets. This one here is 5 hours long and from February 2015 and today´s show features the fifth and last hour of the set. The interesting thing with Vessel was, that it was not a “pure” techno club, actually just a few techno nights were on in this place and I guess, I was always among the most “underground” DJs to play there. I love those kind of challenges, to get a crowd going that is not only there to hear you, but also filled with people who might have never heard this kind of music before, let alone knew who I was. This is why this set is for some of you maybe all over the place and a little more tamed down, but as far as I remember, that night was quite a belter :)  People were always up for a good party in there, no matter what the musical direction. Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
