Sound nightclub is one of my favourite clubs in North America. Located in Hollywood with an incredible sound system and an amazing staff that makes every night in there a blast. This is the first hour of a three hours long set that I played in April 2018. Can´t wait to be back…

I played my first big gig in Florence in 2002, at the Fotazza de Bass. It was the beginning of a long lasting love affair between myself and Italy. I love Italy, I love the people, the parties, the clubs, the festivals, the vibe, the food and a million other things. I am so grateful that over such a long period of time, Italy has allowed me to come and play music. Especially Florence, where it all started for me, and the Viper Club has been a big part of that. A location, that was normally used to play alternative and rock shows mostly, has always been perfect for “our” kind of music too. I have such amazing memories in this place and I hope to be back there one day. This set was recorded there on November 12th 2011, which seems like a lifetime away… well maybe it is. Hope you enjoy the show as much as I enjoyed playing it…

"Ok, maybe I should have not chosen this set for you on AMFM, but… as it marks a milestone really for many reasons, I thought I share it with you with all its ups and downs.

I recorded this set at Akvarium Club in Budapest on Friday July 2nd 2021 and it was my first gig in front of a live crowd in a year! Felt amazing and I wanna thank everyone for making this such an awesome experience.
A second “first" is, that additionally to my regular Traktor/Maschine setup, I included 2 Pioneer CDJ 3000’s. Yes, I want to be like other DJs or rather try what many other DJs do for years, use CDJs. Not as a replacement, rather as an addition. “Why?" you might ask, well a couple of things, I always wanna learn new things (yes, never in my life I used CDJs for DJing..never), the CDJs have some cool features, like slip reverse etc and also I like the fact to mix something in from another source other than Traktor, gives me back a little more the mixing DJ “feel” (as you will hear some transitions where I struggle to keep the beats matched, but I guess that makes it all a bit more “alive” maybe?) and last but not least, using additionally CDJs gives me the peace of mind if something goes wrong with my laptop. I call it an "exit strategy". Every DJ should have that one way or the other to prevent sudden silence on the floor.
The third “first” is maybe the biggest. I use a new mixer. “What?!" I hear you ask once more, as I have been quite a Model1 guy from the beginning, even helping creating the mixer with a bunch of other DJs together under the helm of Richie, but time moves on and new things want to be discovered. So during the pandemic I stumbled upon the new Pioneer DJM V10 mixer and have to say it is quite a beast. Yes, the people at Pioneer “borrowed” quite some ideas that we had put into the Model1 mixer (fun fact, which in turn must mean that I might have indirectly also contributed to this new one? .. anyways, nothing is original these days, everything is a remix of something before, right?) , but Pioneer did whatever they did really well. What a lovely mixer with a great sound and haptics and so I decided to use this one as well on my first “real world gig” too. So as you can see, a lot of “firsts”. I find this so amazing with Techno.. it just constantly keeps evolving.. never ends really. 
Not sure if that is so smart to do so many “first” things after a year of not DJing in front of a live crowd, but hey, you gotta have some additional challenges I thought, or better, I didn´t think much at all.
And now I thought it is a good Idea to share that set with you. I might regret (and delete) that later, but hey why not see what you think….so please share your thoughts with me in the comments below, would be happy to read them. As time goes by, I guess I will learn new tricks and ways to play with that “new setup”. Always so much to learn.

So this is something new. I present to you on AMFM my latest #alonetogether live stream from August 20th 2021. That means you could also watch the whole thing on my youtube channel if you like. The difference here is though that the set is nicely mastered for your full listening pleasure and not just some weird streaming sound quality. If you like more of this, visit my Mixcloud Select page … I always put up all live streams as well as AMFM shows without me talking and of course mastered. After around 3h sadly my live stream computer started crashing, so if you discover the occasional weird mix, that was due to me trying to get that laptop back to work so the stream would  continue … I guess it got too hot in the rave cave for the little laptop… well that put my focus away from the music for a while… Besides that, when I stream, there is a little multitasking going on next to making sure I stream on various channels live, as I not only DJ, I also do the visuals, lights, fog, camera angles, communicating in the comment sections, as well hosting some of my neighbours who showed up in my rave cave. Don’t tell me I can´t walk and chew gum at the same time…;) . Anyways, this is the second hour of the stream, with loads of new music on here. Charlie Sparks is all about energy. Known for emitting an intense gripping aura by seemingly blending Acid, Industrial, Rave, and Psytrance-like grooves, as his releases on @exhaleofc, @999999999music's NineTimesNine imprint and @possessiontechno perfectly encapsulate.

By carefully utilising every aspect of each Charlie is able to create the relentless momentum found in both his productions and performances. His unique hazardous identity has quickly spread and gained acknowledgment from artists such as Amelie Lens, 99999999, and many other heavyweights in the game.
It all started during his architecture studies where he delved into the dark, hard-hitting style of techno and quickly came to realise the huge connection between both creative fields. Just like architecture, every aspect of his music is specifically designed to generate certain emotions and control the atmosphere to captivate the listener. As a result, Charlie has been able to design his energy-filled, rhythmic pounding trademark sound which electrifies dancefloors across the world.

Global Vibe Radio 282 Feat. Charlie Sparks (EXHALE, Possession, NineTimesNine)

After two years, I went on my first “overseas” trip to the USA, and for me, who also loves very much to tour in the Americas (north and south that is), two years of not going was quite a long time. You can imagine how exited I was to touch ground and meet loads of friends in person again. My first stop to play took me to Washington DC, to my beloved @flash Club. A beautiful club with an awesome crowd and a similarly awesome sound system. My first gig could not have been any better. And this is the 3h set, that you are able to check now on my current AMFM show. Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
