Since its emergence the project the has been often labelled as „pitch black techno war funk“ (quoted after an early Boomkat review) and closely associated to what later on would be tagged as the „industrial techno“ – movement. This is possibly due to the radical machine aesthetics Ancient Methods has developed into an unmistakable trademark sound, since more than a decade. However the mechanical framework is – no more, no less – a physical ambassador for a deeper content, there is a profound human emotionality enclosed in the rhythmic shell.

Unsere Nummer 53 kommt von Max Muth! 
Der gebürtige Berliner Max Muth treibt sich schon seit Jahren in den Berliner Clubs rum. Für ihn war 
schnell klar, dass er selbst in der Szene aktiv werden möchte.
Max schloss sich mit zwei weiteren Freunden zusammen, um das Techno Kollektiv Somebodies.Child 
zu gründen.
Neben seinen Aufgaben bei Somebodies.Child ist er auch als Resident DJ für das Kollektiv tätig.
Einen eigenen Charakter verleiht Max Muth seinen Sets durch eine gut durchdachte Trackauswahl. 
Sein Stil zeichnet sich hauptsächlich durch treibenden Techno aus, der hin und wieder auch etwas 
melodisch werden kann.
Durch seine langjährige Erfahrung in der Szene hat er Ahnung von nationalen und internationalen 
Talenten und spiegelt dies in der Somebodies.Child Podcast Serie wider, die er managet.

Seit 2013 gehen Rosalie und Vera privat und beruflich zusammen über die bunte Wiese des verrückten Lebens. Vom ersten Moment an machte es Klick. Anfänglich streiften sie noch als Partners in Crime über die berühmt berüchtigten Tanzflächen Berlins, immer in der ersten Reihe und mit dem Beat in ihren Herzen. Doch die Beiden wollten Mehr! Schnell wurde klar, dass ihr Platz nicht vor den Decks sondern dahinter bestimmt war. Kurzerhand wurde das letzte Sternipfand in ihre erste DJ Technik umgewandelt. Schon bald folgte ein wilder Ritt durch die Clubs der Hauptstadt, der Bundesrepublik und die endlose Technofestivallandschaft.
Seit kurzem sind Sie Mitbegründerinnen und Teil des @summa_summarum Kollektiv in Berlin.

INTERVIEW:
1. Wie funktioniert eure Zusammenarbeit als Duo? Hilft es euch ein Paar zu sein oder eher andersrum?

Mehr is Mehr: Im Großen und Ganzen ist es ein Vorteil so eng mit der engsten Vertrauensperson zu arbeiten. Gerade bei Auswärtsgigs ist es schön, diese Erfahrungen teilen zu können und beieinander zu sein. Sicherlich ist es aber auch eine Herausforderung, so viele Lebensbereiche wie wir miteinander zu teilen und es ist wichtig, im guten Austausch bleiben.

3. Wie würdet ihr den typischen Mehr is Mehr Sound beschreiben?

MM: Wir haben es insgesamt nicht so mit Kategorisierungen aber am besten lässt er sich vielleicht so beschreiben:
Techno ohne Monotonität und mit einem verschmitzten Lächeln.

4. Habt ihr auch schlechten Erfahrungen in der Clubszene gemacht und wenn ja, würdet ihr uns davon berichten? (vielleicht auch im Hinblick auf Erfahrungen als weibliches DJ Paar)

MM: Es passiert uns immer wieder, dass Teile unseres Publikums überzeugt sind, dass wir Männer sind. Das schützt uns sicherlich verglichen zu anderen weiblichen* Kolleginnen* vor Sexismus. Wenn das aber doch passiert, haben wir gute Erfahrungen damit gemacht, offen darüber zu sprechen und sind bisher immer auf offene Ohren gestoßen.

5. Was begeistert euch außerhalb von Techno so richtig und von wem oder was seid ihr Fan?

MM: Wir mögen Tierdokus, alles was paniert ist und sind Fans von Empro.

6. Was war die beste Entscheidung in eurer Laufbahn und worauf seid ihr so richtig stolz?

MM: Die beste Entscheidung war und ist uns selber treu zu bleiben, uns immer wieder in Entscheidungsprozessen zu fragen, ob das noch wir sind und in dieser Hinsicht keine faulen Kompromisse zu machen.

On the 6th of November, I had the pleasure, after more than two years, to play the terrace of the fabulous Space club in Miami again. I feel playing at Space, especially into the early morning hours requires a little different type of setlist, and even more so when the sun starts to come up. So I specially prepared a "terrace" set and included some of my all-time faves in combination with new great things. Hiroko Yamamura opened with a beautifully flowing selection and set the mood for the whole night and morning. I started at 4am and ended up playing for 5h which was so much fun, especially dropping some of my all-time classics again, something I didn't do for a while. Well you can listen to the whole thing now and make your own verdict. Hope you enjoy. Oh and by the way, some news you deserve to know as you have been reading so far :). Since I restarted my CLR label this year, I decided that I will bring back the CLR Podcast once a month with a special DJ set by the artists who release on the label. It will be under the roof of AMFM, so you don't need to do anything, but stay tuned and you will automatically hear the "AMFM CLR Special Podcast Edition" right here at the same spot. AMFM I 416 - Live @Printworks / London, February 12th 2023 - Part 1/1

A big change is coming. More next week, but I thought before all that happens I take you back in time. I have various boxes full of hard disks and I have been recording my sets since like more than 15 years really, so I have quite a collection. I randomly chose a box and within that box randomly chose a disk and found a set I played at the famous Florida 135 on March 1st 2014. So almost exactly 9 years ago. Here is the first hour of that set. I thought it might be nice for a change to check back what I did 9 years ago and you can judge if my skills and music selection has improved or.. well, the opposite … you tell me in the comments below ;)

Back in one of my favourite clubs ever… Nordstern in Basel. For those who haven't been there, it is a boat and has the best layout a club can possibly have. Amazing sound system, huge dance floor, DJ booth on almost the same level at the end of the room, all black and amazing lights and visuals – a perfect place to get lost in the groove. This time I played an all night long set, started at 1 and ended at some point after 6. This week´s AMFM 418 is actually the 3rd hour of my set, next week´s show will contain the 4th and the week after you will be able to listen to the 5th and last. Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
