This week´s AMFM is another CLR Podcast special edition, this time from myself, as I am releasing the 100th release of my label CLR. It is called “Time’s Up EP” and contains two originals by myself and a fantastic moody emotional remix by the one and only Ralf Hildenbeutel, the man with whom I did both albums “Burn Slow” and “Another Day” for the legendary Mute label. So this release goes full circle for me. No better way than to celebrate this release with a CLR Podcast that I recorded at the Coachella festival, which happened in California in April. It was the second time after 2018 that I got to play in the Yuma tent of that fantastic festival. This tent is run by the crew of the Sound Nightclub in Hollywood and has an insane line up and production. I am definitely happy to be a part of that again. The mix contains quite a few unreleased bits from my label, of course all three tracks of the CLR 100 release, as well as great promos from others and I start it off with my latest club remix for my “Another Day“ album track “Cause & Effect” that will be soon out on Mute. It is a 90 minute set, so for those who only get to hear the 60 min “radio version”, please go over to Mixcloud Select, find my channel and listen to the whole set without my voice overs and downloadable on your phone. When I finally arrived on Tuesday the 26th of April in Groningen to play at Paradigm's King's Day event in the Netherlands, I had started my travel the previous day in the desert of Coachella. Sometimes you have to endure a long trip in order to play an awesome party on the other side of the planet. Paradigm is run by a super friendly family-like crew with a lot of love and compassion and exactly those factors matter a whole lot when it comes to techno parties… or techno in general really. What an extraordinary vibe that was, that can be easily compared to a night at Berghain in Berlin or similar places where the music and the location are the main ingredients for a great time. Thanks to that awesome crowd that gave me so many new ideas to mix tracks together and try out some new things. Dank u well everyone who came out and I can't wait to be back! Even after this long weekend in Las Vegas/Coachella/LA and trip back to Europe, I didn't wanna stop playing.. so the set is a little longer than 3h… Today´s AMFM contains the second hour of the set, hope you enjoy!

This week´s AMFM is the third hour of a 7 h set that I played in a very special location. The club is called Distillery and is in Leipzig Germany. It is the longest running club that I have played at in my DJ career. My first gig there was part of the Harthouse 100 Tour in September 1996. The club has an upstairs floor and a downstairs basement floor. The basement is the smaller of both floors and that was the one I got to play in 1996. Since the club now goes into its final year, I wanted to once more play in the basement, so I did an all night long set on May 25th 2022. I started at midnight and ended shortly after 7 in the morning, playing quite a few classics as well. Sadly, due to a technical issue, I didn't manage to save a tracklist, so I appreciate any help that I can get with that in the comments from all of you! (Well I know what I played, it is just quite a lot of work to reconstruct that...) I hope you enjoy this whole set, it was very special to me and quite emotional at times, as I had loads of great memories popping up during my time down there, from all the amazing times that I got to have in this fantastic venue over the years. A big thanks goes out to the whole crew of the club, especially to Steffen, who has been running this place passionately since the beginning and is currently preparing the move into a new location by January 2023. Once more this is a reminder, how important the club scene is for our music and that we all should always support our local clubs. In the end they are the foundation for the music, for the resident DJs and for the crowd that enjoys a good time together. We would be nowhere without those kind of clubs run by passionate people for so many years. Long live Distillery Leipzig!

Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
