This week´s AMFM is the fifth hour of a 7 h set that I played in a very special location. The club is called Distillery and is in Leipzig Germany. It is the longest running club that I have played at in my DJ career. My first gig there was part of the Harthouse 100 Tour in September 1996. The club has an upstairs floor and a downstairs basement floor. The basement is the smaller of both floors and that was the one I got to play in 1996. Since the club now goes into its final year, I wanted to once more play in the basement, so I did an all night long set on May 25th 2022. I started at midnight and ended shortly after 7 in the morning, playing quite a few classics as well. Sadly, due to a technical issue, I didn't manage to save a tracklist, so I appreciate any help that I can get with that in the comments from all of you! (Well I know what I played, it is just quite a lot of work to reconstruct that...) I hope you enjoy this whole set, it was very special to me and quite emotional at times, as I had loads of great memories popping up during my time down there, from all the amazing times that I got to have in this fantastic venue over the years. A big thanks goes out to the whole crew of the club, especially to Steffen, who has been running this place passionately since the beginning and is currently preparing the move into a new location by January 2023. Once more this is a reminder, how important the club scene is for our music and that we all should always support our local clubs. In the end they are the foundation for the music, for the resident DJs and for the crowd that enjoys a good time together. We would be nowhere without those kind of clubs run by passionate people for so many years. Long live Distillery Leipzig!

I said it before and I say it again…: What an immense honour and pleasure it was for me to close down the Techno Stage of the very last edition of the legendary @welcometothefuturefestival . I have a long history with this special festival. It was very emotional and also quite sad, knowing it is the last time, yet simultaneously incredible to share this with you all there, grateful for precisely these moments and memories that we created together. This set goes down in my top 10 fav moments of my DJ career, and I chose to play “Two Months Off” by @underworld as the last track because:

Cocorico! I got such amazing memories with this awesome club in Riccione Italy. Didn’t play there for 4 years, first it had to close down and then there was this virus. So I was uber happy to be back and it was a total blast, such a good vibe right into the beautiful sunrise. Such an incredible atmosphere in this place, I would say better than ever before, if that is even possible. So great to see so many happy people dancing in this pyramid again. Thanks to everyone for bringing this energy to the night. The set was 3h 20 min in the end. On September 10th at the end of a 7 week long absolutely incredible summer tour (thank you all for that) I got to play in beautiful Switzerland, to be more precise in Interlaken at the Apocalypse Dance Event. It was a real fun gig that was even more fun as I was playing almost 2 of those 4 hours b2b with my friend Radio Slave. What a blast we had and I thought it might be nice to share that whole set with you on AMFM. The first kind of 90 min are me alone and after that Radio Slave joins me for almost 2 hours before I finished the night off solo again. Wonder if you can spot the exact moment (hint: it is in the second hour) where Matt is joining me. If you think so, please leave a comment in the comments and I will check! So I was on a North America tour for two weekends, playing 4 gigs. All really amazing gigs, so thanks to everyone involved in San Fransisco at (@halcyon_sf) , San Diego at (@bloomdtsd) New York at (@knockdowncenter) and finally in Toronto at (@activate_events_ in a secret warehouse location) I had such a blast on each individual gig and again may I say that this was one of the best tours up to date.. Amazing to see things going so well with Techno in North America and people having so much fun. During the week I spent some nice days in LA hanging out, where by the way my next gig will be for a cool Warehouse Party with @drumcell and his crew on November 26th in case you read this and you are there, get your tix… (link is this: https://bit.ly/3EkAK28 )

In this AMFM show you can listen to the second hour of the last set that I played on the tour, the one from Toronto. There are loads of unreleased tracks in there, so don’t share with too many people please, as I really should not be already playing them out loud. Like the next release on CLR with (@Blackasteroid_official & @risa_taniguchi_rs called the ‘Acid Flesh EP’) and my next release on CLR… just look for those vocal samples like “love those who fight the oppressors” and “passion” and you know already. And there is some new awesome DEAS material as well included… so much good new music on the horizon - great times for Techno. Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
