“Be patient, and don’t expect any results really quickly,” says German techno legend Chris Liebing and even though he’s talking about pursuing a career in the DJ world these words ring true for all of us. Good things take their time folks. 30 years into his career The DJ and producer is celebrating one of his biggest milestones with the release of his sophomore album Another Day. 

We talk about slowing down with music and embracing its delayed gratification in a fast-paced world.

There are still first times happening for me in Europe, even after travelling and DJing the continent for almost 25 years now. But I have never ever made it to Cyprus before. So on March 24th it was my very first time on this beautiful island, and it could not have gone any better. The awesome crew of @technohabitsnicosia were such amazing hosts, real outstanding. And what a cool location in the middle of nowhere really. I felt like in the early days of raves. Not to mention the amazing crowd in the Camelot (yes, indeed it looked like a little old English castle). Cyprus, I feel a whole lot of love for all of you there. What an awesome event you put up, I cannot say enough how thankful I am that you invited me and I really hope to be back super soon. Maybe in the summer? So now I am happy to share the 3+ hour set I got to play there with all of you. Hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed playing it. It is filled with loads of upcoming and current CLR releases by the way. Try and spot them.

On September 10th at the end of a 7 week long absolutely incredible summer tour (thank you all for that) I got to play in beautiful Switzerland, to be more precise in Interlaken at the Apocalypse Dance Event. It was a real fun gig that was even more fun as I was playing almost 2 of those 4 hours b2b with my friend Radio Slave. What a blast we had and I thought it might be nice to share that whole set with you on AMFM. The first kind of 90 min are me alone and after that Radio Slave joins me for almost 2 hours before I finished the night off solo again. Wonder if you can spot the exact moment (hint: it is in the second hour) where Matt is joining me. If you think so, please leave a comment in the comments and I will check! I hope as always you enjoy the show! The tracklisting is sadly not complete, as I don’t know what Matt was playing, maybe you can fill in the blanks.

P.s: Fun fact, Interlaken has its name, as it is located between two lakes! Very practical those Swiss ....

So I was on a North America tour for two weekends, playing 4 gigs. All really amazing gigs, so thanks to everyone involved in San Fransisco at (@halcyon_sf) , San Diego at (@bloomdtsd) New York at (@knockdowncenter) and finally in Toronto at (@activate_events_ in a secret warehouse location) I had such a blast on each individual gig and again may I say that this was one of the best tours up to date.. Amazing to see things going so well with Techno in North America and people having so much fun. During the week I spent some nice days in LA hanging out, where by the way my next gig will be for a cool Warehouse Party with @drumcell and his crew on November 26th in case you read this and you are there, get your tix… (link is this: https://bit.ly/3EkAK28 )

For this AMFM show I chose the last set that I played on the tour, the one from Toronto. There are loads of unreleased tracks in there, so don’t share with too many people please, as I really should not be already playing them out loud. Like the next release on CLR with (@Blackasteroid_official & @risa_taniguchi_rs called the ‘Acid Flesh EP’) and my next release on CLR… just look for those vocal samples like “love those who fight the oppressors” and “passion” and you know already. And there is some new awesome DEAS material as well included… so much good new music on the horizon - great times for Techno. So I hope you enjoy this week´s show and once more, thanks to everyone coming out to the shows in the US and Canada (by the way, Knockdown Center.. what a massive location and party .. wow)!

Another legendary club that closed down too soon in 2015, Vessel was a beautifully designed club in the middle of San Francisco, with a top notch sound system. I always loved to play there, especially open to close sets. This one here is 5 hours long and from February 2014. Today´s show features the second hour of the set. The interesting thing with Vessel was, that it was not a “pure” techno club, actually just a few techno nights were on in this place and I guess, I was always among the most “underground” DJs to play there. I love those kind of challenges, to get a crowd going that is not only there to hear you, but also filled with people who might have never heard this kind of music before, let alone knew who I was. This is why this set is for some of you maybe all over the place and a little more tamed down, but as far as I remember, that night was quite a belter :)  People were always up for a good party in there, no matter what the musical direction. Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
