So I was on a North America tour for two weekends, playing 4 gigs. All really amazing gigs, so thanks to everyone involved in San Fransisco at (@halcyon_sf) , San Diego at (@bloomdtsd) New York at (@knockdowncenter) and finally in Toronto at (@activate_events_ in a secret warehouse location) I had such a blast on each individual gig and again may I say that this was one of the best tours up to date.. Amazing to see things going so well with Techno in North America and people having so much fun. During the week I spent some nice days in LA hanging out, where by the way my next gig will be for a cool Warehouse Party with @drumcell and his crew on November 26th in case you read this and you are there, get your tix… (link is this: https://bit.ly/3EkAK28 )

For this AMFM show I chose the last set that I played on the tour, the one from Toronto. There are loads of unreleased tracks in there, so don’t share with too many people please, as I really should not be already playing them out loud. Like the next release on CLR with (@Blackasteroid_official & @risa_taniguchi_rs called the ‘Acid Flesh EP’) and my next release on CLR… just look for those vocal samples like “love those who fight the oppressors” and “passion” and you know already. And there is some new awesome DEAS material as well included… so much good new music on the horizon - great times for Techno. So I hope you enjoy this week´s show and once more, thanks to everyone coming out to the shows in the US and Canada (by the way, Knockdown Center.. what a massive location and party .. wow)!

LA has always had and has a special place in my heart. So many amazing memories. Been playing there since the late 90’s. In 2009 I played for the first time for “Interface” (now @Observe) and it happened to be the first time that I met Moe Espinosa aka @drumcell who since is one of my best friends. That first party was quite something, as I forgot one of my bags with my sound interfaces in the hotel and Moe had to drive me back to the hotel (a 45min drive.. well yeah, that is LA) and during the drive we got to talk a little and I asked him if this parties he is doing never get busted as they are mostly illegal in downtown LAs warehouse district. He told me “never”. Next thing that happened was that he got a phone call with me in the car driving and someone told him that the fire marshalls just showed up and busted the event. He as the promoter of the event couldn’t be there as he was driving the idiot who forgot his bag in the hotel. To make a long story short, he and his crew organised a new warehouse nearby and I ended up playing till the morning. I recently posted about it, so go back on my Instagram and you see a little video how all this went down.
This time it was the 20 year anniversary. I managed to not forget my bags, but when I entered the event space, I saw a police helicopter hovering above me with a spotlight shining right at me. Luckily it turned out they weren’t interested in our party, so this time no location change was needed and we had a blast. I am so honoured to be playing at their 20 year anniversary. The crew around Drumcell has been a cornerstone in the LA underground Techno scene and without them, Techno on the west coast would not be what it is today. All promoters running techno shows in LA, San Diego and so on should be grateful for them building such an amazing scene. @observe , good luck for the next 20 years and I hope I can play a little part in it, also in the future.

AMFM I 406 - Live @Observe - 20 Year Anniversary, LA - 26.11.22 - 1/3

I started at midnight when doors just opened. I always find it nice to start a night with no one in the club and set the mood for the next hours. Grelle Forelle is a perfect club for those kinds of nights. Great sound system, great venue and great crowd. A club run by truly passionate people. Always love playing there and doing an open to close set is quite a journey with sometimes some unexpected twists and turns. You never know really what the next hour will be like, you kind of have an idea, but it changes according to moods and new ideas. This was a 6h journey and here is the third one. Hope you enjoy!

Back in one of my favourite clubs ever… Nordstern in Basel. For those who haven't been there, it is a boat and has the best layout a club can possibly have. Amazing sound system, huge dance floor, DJ booth on almost the same level at the end of the room, all black and amazing lights and visuals – a perfect place to get lost in the groove. This time I played an all night long set, started at 1 and ended at some point after 6. This week´s AMFM 419 is actually the 4th hour of my set, next week´s show will contain the 5th and last. Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
