November 2013 Promo Mix

Young Mancunian Ruthit is Fresh Meat’s latest signing. He’s been writing music for two years and DJing for three. In that time he has released eight projects and half a dozen remixes most notably on Four Twenty and murmur. Ruthit has been a busy man. For Fresh Meat he’s written two original songs, “I Feel” and “Sunkissed”.

“I Feel” was the first cut sent over and we loved it instantly. It is the kind of organic deep house that struts confidently, moving with intuitive precision. Some might mistake this subtle tune as simplistic. But the truth is each (good) House producer only gets a few tracks like “I Feel” during an entire career; spending the rest of his or her time either tied up in ever more complex (and ineffectual) technical antics or trying to replicate the magic, that at a point like this, explodes from the subconscious. There is no pretention about “I Feel”. The track sports a stripped, earthy beat made memorable by a wide swinging clunky snare, a modulating saw pad, perfectly placed female vocal snippets and a raw arrangement seldom heard from such a young artist.

The second Ruthit original, “Sunkissed”, is an exercise in machine soul. The pads and piano keep tightly repetitive, accented only by female vocals and wood block style percussion. Two note bass bumps counter a monotone string, droning against the rest of the rhythm. In the mix, worked by a skilled DJ this kind of psychedelic deep house can cause the eyes to close, the mind to drift and the hips to sway in time with heavenly constellations. “Sunkissed” walks the path laid down by adventurers like Chez Damier, Ron Trent and Moritz Von Oswald.

We asked New Yorkers Kev Obrien and Chris Luzz to remix “I Feel”. Kev has been a supporter of Fresh Meat for two years and we play what he’s done on labels like Smoke City and Loco Records. The production duo took Ruthit’s original elements, re-freaking the vocals and adding their own keys and bass parts. Their remix is a modern animal but in the tradition of Salt City Orchestra’s best productions on Paper Recordings, complete with a bridge brimming over with live bass, liquid chords and twinkling echoed piano stabs.

Over the last 12 months we have been keeping a close eye on some serious talent coming out of Dallas in Texas, already J. Crocker has graced the House Trip stable with his well received remix of 'I Really Wanna Stay' by The Lucius Project which featured the stunning vocals by Diana Lynn...

Next up from Dallas we welcome Ray Dickerson to the label with his debut Single 'No Way Without You' - Ray turns out a stunning deep houser which is sure to make a big impression on those Deep House floors over the coming weeks...

On remix duties first we welcome Mr Deep House himself David Garcia aka Deephope, hailing from Spain and owner of Deep Clicks, David needs no introduction having already released on Deep House Heavyweights such as Savoir Faire Musique, Adult Music and I Records among other's.  David delivers his trademark sound, filled with punchy beats, deep layers, chopped vocals and lush chords making this a tidy little number to say the least...

Next up fresh out of Brooklyn NYC is Little Giant head honcho Chris Luzz who turns out a more up tempo deep, dubby cut with chopped up vocals adding to the drama....

Finally we give a massive welcome to the House Trip family for a man that has pushed the boundaries to get this remix to us almost against all the odds.  Patrick Gideon, again hailing from Dallas, having had some great tracks out on Eric Smith's Soulgrab Records delivers an absolute bomb to complete the package...

Vibe Me To The Moon is the fresh new label from Amsterdam and New York City-based production and DJ duo, Nightsteppaz, in collaboration with house legend, Roland Clark.

The original mix sets it's roots in a classic house sound, while Roland Clark delivers one of his most spot-on and unfiltered spoken word sermons yet.

To give the release a well-rounded finish, a quartet of remixes spanning the entire realm of styles within the house genre were commissioned, and they all delivered amazing works, as expected.

The red-hot Joeski leads the way with his remix, slamming it home with a driving groove, flurried with the signature drum fills and big-room drops and builds that have led him up the charts and around the globe during his long and storied career.

MANIK offers up another slam dunk from across the court with his 303-drenched 'You Need Some Acid' remix, which offers up exactly what the Doctor prescribes, via it's bending and winding acid bass line, which is filtered flawlessly, in and out of the mix in a way that only the New York to California transplant can deliver.

Next up is yet another veteran known for his prolific output, Jay Tripwire. Jay's remix takes a deep dive into more minimal territory, keeping the focus on the low-end with a pulsating sub-bass that keeps the groove locked in, without taking things too far over the top, this is definitely one for the late-night crowd.

To polish things off, the well-respect Brooklyn producer, Chris Luzz, provides one of his best remixes to date. With a ten-plus minute rendition that is nothing short of a journey in an of itself, his '6AM Sunrise Remix' exactly shows why he is undoubtedly one of the most capable producers in the game.

Nightsteppaz & Roland Clark - The Energy Of The Room (Chris Luzz 6AM Sunrise Remix)

NYC producer and one of the heads of the label, Little Giant, Chris Luzz gives us 4 tracks for the next 3Bridge Elements release. A mix of downtempo and ambient, it showcases the diversity of his production styles.

'Calm' starts things off with a slow, steady beat with retro style 808 percussion, piano riffs, and filtered out dubby synths. Pianos also occasionally punch through the mix creating a borderline jazzy smoky, silky feel.

The piece 'Cool' drenches the listener with echoing voices, evolving melodies, and soundtrack type sequences. A textured backdrop keeps the atmosphere heavy, perhaps it's rain pelting against a window, or trees blowing in a field as branches snap against each other gracefully.

'Collective' follows as a great counter part to the previous song. It's beat less and airy evoking the earlier works of Tangerine Dream and Jean-Michel Jarre. It stays up in the clouds, as if you were looking down at city lights twinkling from above.

'Solidarity' bookends the EP and leaves it off where it started. The moodiest track on the record, the light but detailed drums propel it, while heavy pads and bells help it flourish.

Stay 'Calm, Cool, and Collective' with this really solid EP.
