21-year-old Ukrainian DJ and producer Dart Rayne is bringing the bass for his Garuda Music debut with a new, heavy-hitting progressive house smash ‘Human Weapon,’ out August 19 on Beatport.

Already a set favorite by Garuda boss Gareth Emery himself, ‘Human Weapon’ debuted on TGEP 244 and has been dropping the jaws of anyone who’s heard it since. Extensive big-room builds layered with sharp snares set the tone immediately, letting you know it’s time to hit the dancefloor. Trill synths lift you up as the intensity builds higher and higher before exploding into monumental drops filled with dark, throbbing, soul-rattling bass. Together, this genre-bending combination forms a cohesive recipe for an instant classic festival banger. 

In his few short years in the scene Dart Rayne, aka Andrey Krutikov, has been on a mission to put his home country on the map in the progressive and trance world. So far he’s been successful, becoming the first Ukrainian to be awarded "Tune Of The Week" on ASOT and featured on the legendary mix compilation In Search of Sunrise. 

Now through his latest production, Rayne has cemented himself as a ‘Human Weapon,’ and a force to be reckoned with in the EDM universe. So make sure to turn up the bass on this one and prepare to be blown away!

SHOCK HORROR!!! Me playing Grime!!!!

OK so, most of you know me for playing techno and hard trance and more electronic and dance based stuff. But bear with me here - there’s a method to this madness if you have an open mind. Let me explain….. 

In the last few years I started a project called ‘Safety In Music’, giving loads of young people and adults in the community, schools, prisons, schools etc the opportunity to make music or DJ whilst educating them on the dangers of gangs, knives, extremism, CSA etc.

I quickly came to realise that I needed to understand many different forms of music that I previously wouldn’t have even bothered listening to, so that I can get the interest of every single student in my classes no matter what music they’re into. So this is my latest mix, trying to understand the Grime genre. I did one about a year ago (it's on my Soundcloud), but it was instrumental. What I like about the instrumental part of Grime is it reminds me of techno stuff like Drexiya (Underground Resistance) and early electro from the 80's. Some really great rhythms. It’s actually really, really clever what is happening in the music here. 

This time though I wanted to challenge myself to put something together using the lyrics in the music too. I wanted to try to come up with something without the in-your-face negatives. Something that showcases the strength of the music rather than everyone woman is a b*tch and go shoot someone in the face right now. Unpicking insane and negative lyrics is something we do as part of our Safety In Music program, whether it’s Grime, Drill or even far right music. But I wanted to put together something that isn’t swearing and hate in every other word and to show people it CAN BE DONE. And challenge myself in the process. 

This was very, very hard. I’m not 100% sure I’ve achieved it, but I think I’m close. Lyrics are not my forte, and many of the sentences are street slang that are very hard for me to understand! I downloaded over 500 Grime tracks and 90% of them I simply could not use (even though WOW some of the music underneath was mindblowing!) Also the way you mix this music is very different to what I’m used to. I had to really think hard about it. I hope I've done it justice. 

Anyway, let me know what you all think! Yes it’s not techno or whatever, but it’s important to push yourself in life and that’s what I’m trying to do here for the benefit of the people I’m teaching.
