Images of Cottesloe Beach kept coming to me when I was writing this, so it became a shipwreck song. The word 'nanpa' in Japanese means shipwreck (難破), and also chasing girls(ナンパ). Therefore, those sailors got their just deserts, and beers at the Cottesloe Hotel beer garden. Thanks to Rob Ellis for his backing vocals, he held that note for longer than I've held a woman.
