I wrote this during a bout of insomnia. I heard the bass line and the lyric "I'd rather walk than sleep upon a troubled bed."  I worked backwards from there.

Hurricane Brain

Invisibility isn’t a superpower...It’s a curse.

During the time when we were trying to find a name for my child, the wife and I were butting heads about what "kind" of name she was to have.   She was going for more of a new school or abstract type name (which always sounds stripperish to me) and I wanted to give her something a bit more traditional.  I have a bit of hillbilly in me, so the idea of a strong middle name that fit well with her first name was the direction I wanted to go.  My wife had been surveying our extended family, getting their opinions and sending me videos of my little nephews telling me their likes and dislikes.  Luckily, I had a decent hook pop in my head.  I ran for my guitar and turned on my voice recorder.  About 15 minutes later I sent my rebuttal.  The reply was "I guess her name is Stella Mae!"

It's a small thing, that little victory.  I cherish my Stella like nothing else.  and tonight

I think of the Dukes of Hazard when I play this.  It's an old Rabbitfoot tune we never got to record.  I did my best to channel the boys when recording it.

Highway

Lived the Rock and Roll life in the 90s.  The business end and the politics burned me out.  Now I play/write for the joy of it.  It’s cheap therapy!
