This is from the sonnet Book Ends II by Tony Harrison, who died on 26 September 2025. 

It is an intensely personal poem about grief, which I have loved ever since I first read it over 40 years ago. I was stunned when Tony kindly agreed to let me put it to music, and it will be part of my album What Lies Beneath when it comes out on 7 November.

This is an original song from another lifetime ago that expresses the frustration of walking away from a terrific relationship because I was still foolishly addicted to a past relationship.
