Panthera Krause joins the Lobster Theremin stable with a mid-summer trip into the heart of the sun. Drawing on a plethora of classic house influences, Krause weaves these into a style which is a at once recognisable yet uniquely his own, production-wise drawing as much from the MPC-led West Coast beat scene as the European house approach. 

'Rules' kicks off the EP with a serious throwing of the gauntlet.. A slightly shuffled beat being quickly overtaken by a groove-hefty wandering bassline that bobs it's way around a melodic 8-bar refrain, suddenly smothered and smudged by the glowing warmth of sun-tinged pads. Pure summer analogue headiness distilled into 6 minutes of terrace-slaying bliss. 

On the flip, 'Rewo' takes a dusty shakin' drum pattern and filters a cut-throat sampled 'n' filtered piano stab into the mix. All seemingly harmless until the gargantuan sub bass comes rumbling into the fray. Solid lobster pool-party action on a 5* LA hotel rooftop. 

Closing out the EP, and moving things into edits-y territory, is 'Them Flutes'. Although debatable whether there are actually discernible flutes in the track, the final number is built around a looping proto-disco element that steadily evolves while shoving a cattle-prod to the hips when those periodic chords hit.

Mijo is spearheading the new wave of DJ/Producers heading out from Mexico, Local Suicide are the club regulars with Berlin nights like TOFU and Voyage Voyage.  As well as this, Dina and Max have released tracks with Rodion and released on My Favourite Robot Records with Abu Dhabi, one of the finest tracks of the year. 
Mijo and Local Suicide have come together and in doing so they concocted beats, bleeps and general shenanigans to create a quirky breaky track with a beatbox style cut up vocal which in spite of its playful nature has claws which could sever a spinal column if required, so beware when you get to the speakers, this is sharper than a hypodermic needle fresh from a bag,  it's going to tattoo your eardrums and make your soul dance until it's feet bleed or fall off. In a good way, obviously.

Further explorations into leftfield electronic rhythms are chartered on Cin Cin’s seventeenth release.  Bringing together two unique and talented artists on one release, Vanessa Worm and Sau Poler serve up four delectable cuts.

Vanessa Worm, debuts on Cin Cin, with one release for Optimo Music already behind her (and a full length album coming soon on Optimo).  ‘SLASH’ is built upon a drum machine heavy disco beat and a rampage of acid tones, battered vocal hits and a seriously funky groove.  Spacey punk funk business!  ‘444 – 000’ is also delivered in spirited fashion, a riotous blend of electro pop and heavy tech-funk is offered up, with Worm in playful mode, mashing vocals and samples together to marvelous effect.  

Sau Poler has been on our radar for sometime, following a string of infectious releases for Atomnation and Modern Obscure Music.  Hazy, tropical auras are deployed on ‘Primitiu’, as a raw 303 bassline cuts through a vivid sonic wilderness.  ‘Lunatic Decay’ also plunders a dense and equatorial sound, with a hypnotizing percussive rhythm holding steady a cloud of experimental sound design and studio inventiveness.

Jorkes collaborate with Hard Ton to release a sensual single on their Freeride Millenium imprint including remixes from Massimiliano Pagliara, Soulphiction and his alias Jackmate. 
 Taking inspiration from a vast musical sphere, the Munich-Vienna pair Jorkes are widely recognised for their open-minded and passionate approach to electronic music which is translated through their Freeride Millenium imprint and own unique productions. ‘Cross The Line’ will be the duo’s first outing since 2016 seeing them join up with the Italian pair Hard Ton who are known for releases on Wonder Stories, Luv Shack Records, Toy Tonics and many more. Jorkes invite Live At Robert Johnson artist Massimiliano Pagliara and Philpot founder Soulphiction aka Jackmate for remix duties which tops off this distinctive release highlighting the openness and sensibility of their musical philosophy. 
 ‘Cross The Line’ begins the EP with alleviating pads balanced harmoniously with alluring, heart-warming vocals and gentle keys drifting throughout before Massimiliano Pagliara delivers an infectious remix focusing on hypnotic bass grooves, effervescent drums and undulating pads fluttering naturally with the stirring modulations. 
 ‘Jackmate’s Dub Mix’ deploys low-riding resonations fused with muffled tones and thrilling, shuffling rhythms within whereas ‘Jackmate’s 90s Mix’ focuses heavily on organic percussion rolling throughout with robust musical elements and looping vocals. Soulphiction’s ’Dub Mix’ completes the pack with a tranquil take on the original laying focus on funk-infused instrumentals and subdued jazz drums keeping the atmosphere smooth yet enticing.

Back in 2018, Lumière Noire celebrated its first anniversary with a compilation featuring thirteen exclusive tracks by an eclectic group of electronic musicians – a family portrait of sorts. A few months later, a second volume of From Above, compiled by the label’s artistic director (and DJ) Chloé, once more brings thirteen established acts together with promising upstarts.

The first compilation was the embodiment of the label policy advocating for both artistic excellence and a widening of electronic aesthetics – bopping from deviant house music to adventurous IDM and to the rigor of dancefloor techno, among other electronic explorations.

Some of the artists featured are now closely associated with Lumière Noire, while others were more established performers such as Benedikt Frey, Lauer, Jonathan Fitoussi, Il Est Vilaine, Dave e Brun (half of Swayzac) and Frank Agrario, as well as upcoming artists such as C O N T R A (a side project by none other than Iñigo Vontier), Sutja Gutierrez, Théo Muller, Markus Gibb, Bajram Bili, and a sprinkling of UFOs circling the genre (Suuns’ Ben Shemie, Drvg Cvltvre, and electroacoustic combo Lumi).

This group photo laid down a number of paths for a label in perpetual evolution. Since then, the Parisian entity has continued to grow within the international electronic scene, releasing Local Suicide’s Leopard Gum EP, Iñigo Vontier’s first LP, and planning another slew of releases for 2020.

The lineup for this second volume of From Above is once again equally intriguing, offering a crescendo-like track listing over a double LP format, which is a feat of sorts for a «Various Artists» compilation.

The fifth color, Green, thus features music from Perm, Dispo 5000, cvbox and Iron Curtis. The latter, a Berliner by choice, comes up with Against My Window (Dazed Mix) a track with a determined groove that easily sucks its audience into its musical adaptation beforethe techno-ish meaningful mind sucker carries you far away from every day troubles right onto the dance floor to dance the aforementioned away. Against My Window (Dazed Mix) is one of these timeless almost classy takes that dancers and DJs equally connect with a night in one of these electronic music temples as it simply covers and captures this unique dark yet dreamy vibe.
