The Opiates is the latest project from the "queen of electronic soul" Billie Ray Martin, together with Norwegian musician Robert Solheim.

The long awaited taster of remixes and first single from the forthcoming album ‘Hollywood Under the Knife’. For The Opiates, these remixes by such greats as Hercules and Love Affair’s Kim Ann Foxman, as well as all-time heroes Chris and Cosey of Throbbing Gristle, are a dream come true. The results are magnetic. The XHK Mix with its hard Dubstep flavour completes the picture and gives the song a completely new voice and vibe.

With the single ‘Rainy Days and Saturdays’, The Opiates live up to their ‘Carpenters of Electro’ title and hope to conquer airwaves and underground alike. It’s a song about the transvestite Candy Darling who, although leading the wild life and preparing for a sex change, dreams of married life and a house in the suburbs.

The album ‘Hollywood Under the Knife’ will be released on Disco Activisto Records both digitally and as a CD on 17 October, featuring nine unreleased images by Turner Prize winning artist Wolfgang Tillmans, who opened his entire archive, granting The Opiates free choice of images.

These guys get a special workover from SP, taking a tradition turkish pop song to a moody broken beat slow slammer. Deep detroitesque synth lines will take you deep into the 110 bpm groove and get your belly dancing & your hands clapping.

This track is basically a TipTop Z8000 sequencer controlling a Z-DSP module, a Z2040 VCF &amp; a Z5000 VCDSP module. The audio source is a Boss DR-220E Dr.Rhythm, which is also triggering the Z8000 sequencer from its programmable Trig output. Other modules used were a MFB Dual LFO- to change the direction of the sequencer and a Doepfer Dual VCA modulated by two Doepfer VCOs to add a little ring-mod'ish timbre.

Chris and cosey - October Love Song (Remix)

The LepLoop
I've used a lot of synths over the years but this one is something different…&nbsp;&nbsp;it's a strange instrument. It's small, much smaller than it appears in photos: it is part synth, part drum machine, part multi-track sequencer. I'm still&nbsp;figuring it all out but initial impressions are that it's very unpredictable and slightly unstable… but in a good way. I had a few issues with it sometimes refusing to work and also it has a tendency to pick up stray&nbsp;signals from my iPhone and iPad if they are anywhere near it. But&nbsp;when it works&nbsp;it is quite rewarding to use and is capable of some amazing sounds - if mildly frustrating trying get it to do what I think it 'should' be able to do - but I will persevere. If you like wonderful experimental noises - accompanied by a simple rhythm (although I'm sure it's very capable of a lot more) then this little unit could be for you.
The LepLoop will definitely become part of my CCCL&nbsp;experimental&nbsp;arsenal and will most likely get seconded into the upcoming Throbbing Gristle experimental sets in October/November 2010.
The short sound example here was performed without a keyboard, just using the internal sequencer and some real-time tweakery. The outputs were processed with a couple of Eventide pedals for some 'tape delay' &amp; reverb.
