It is not everyday we are sent a 5 hour mix from someone we have asked to join our Phonica mix series; but when Sheffield & Manchester legend Luke Una sends one… you have to jump straight into it! Having become first recognised in the late 80’s and 90’s as one half of production team “The Unabombers” with Justin Crawford, Luke over the years has shown to be a master in all genres be it Balearic, to Brazilian to E soul, House, Disco and Techno, you name it! With his Worldwide FM show over the years gaining a cult following Luke has gained an even more of a broader crowd from his curation of his E Soul Cultura compilation series via the label Mr.Bongo (Both comps topping our EOY lists in 2022 and 2023). This exact vast taste (that is displayed in these compilations) is very much pummelled into this five hour journey of a mix like a piece of clay and sculpted into a fine piece of art. DEEPSYSTEMS TWITCH STREAM 16-11-25

Vancouver based Cloudface has emerged in the last couple of years as someone who is reinvigorating house music with a serene sense of mood. As well as links to Future Times and Black Opal, he has released a hugely sought after 12” on acclaimed Canadian label Mood Hut and works with Max Ravitz as DSR.MR. Born David Reynolds, Cloudface’s music is raw and prickly, yet comes doused in ambient beauty, with emotive pads and tumbling drums countering each other in compelling and comforting ways. 

For his Dekmantel mix, he serves up a sizzling 77 minute selection of own unreleased tracks, some live recordings and special studio jams. It is a great insight into his musical mind and processes that starts in a heavenly, blissful place before slowly drifting into lazy grooves, dubbed out analogue grooves and frosty yet always soul infused beats. The result is a truly wintery yet heart warming listen.

Earlier this year Matt Anniss released the book Join The Future - UK Bleep & Bass 1988-91. Some five years in the making it tells the story of the rise of British dance music during the late 80s and 90s. To coincide with this book, Optimo (espacio) founding member JD @Twitch has put together a compilation with some of the key tracks during this period. To celebrate the release of this compilation we have a special mix focussing on these genres Bleep Techno & Bass.  JD Twitch effortlessly pulls together classics from the genre starting with the seminal Test Four from Richard H. Kirk and DJ Parrot, through his own remix of Nightmares on Wax’s Dextrous,  LFO, Tough Little Unit and Ital Rockers. Sitting neatly alongside these blueprints, we have modern productions on labels indebted to this sound such as Batu’s 2017 Hessle Audio cut Marius, I-iii’s Livity Sound release and Luca Lozano’s And It Was Good - released through Twitch’s own Optimo Trax.
