Spent Saturday at Knobcon 2015! Saw so many instruments I'd only read about. My favorite part was the "Demo Derby"– a room with a handful of "curated systems" where anybody could come in and play with them. I spent a lot of time there as it was my first time playing commercial modular synths!

I loved the WMD system and the Bastl system, but was probably most intrigued by the Verbos System (a "performance system" I believe: http://www.analoguehaven.com/verboselectronics/performancesystem/ although it didn't have a sequencer). It sounded absolutely fantastic and I discovered the usefulness of envelope generators that spit out a trigger when they are done (you can loop them!!). That's what I was exploring when I recorded this little track direct to my edirol recorder.

I certainly can't afford any of this gear anytime soon, but it sure is inspiring to make some sounds with this stuff. The next envelope generators I build will most certainly include "done" triggers so they can be looped. So cool.

I'm building a synthesizer, focusing on making it playable live. This is my first attempt to get anything at all recorded, not much planning or anything, just throwing a patch together and letting it run.

Modules used: TR-808 snare, hat, and an oscillator that can glide between triangle wave to square with a smooth sine in between. These pass through a wave multiplier, diode-ladder low pass, and a PT2399 based delay.

Along with that is a TR-808 kick, modded for adjustable frequency and longer delay. The kick is clean -- no effects at all.

Then it's just messing with the filter knobs!
