In Spring 2021, Mike Paradinas (µ-Ziq and the owner of Planet Mu) spoke to long time friend and past label signing Hannah Davidson (Mrs Jynx) about the therapeutic power of writing music when times are tough. Both had recently been dealing with the loss of a parent due to cancer, and fresh from writing Scurlage, Paradinas suggested a collaboration.

“I’ve always thought Hannah’s melodic sensibilities chime well with my own," says Paradinas, "and I've wanted to collaborate with her for a long time, since [her 2010 album] 'Shark Carousel' in fact, because she'd written some melodies that I wish I had.”

In a matter of weeks the two collaborated online, sending stems back and forth, each encouraging the other and fitting perfectly together. 

“After about ten days we had ten tracks we were happy with." adds Davidson, "It was exciting to hear what Mike would do with the stems I sent, and equally exciting to see what he thought of my additions to his stems.”

Overall the result is an opus of deeply personal moments of grief, depicted in a feeling of serene, misty tranquility that makes it easy to get lost in. Davidson and Paradinas settled on the title 'Secret Garden' due to the melodic vista which unexpectedly opened up before them on the final track. The album truly is a melodic exploration that is so often missed in this genre. 

There are twists and turns in mood, from the pastoral loveliness of 'Jynxiq' and 'Unheard Melodies' which fall away to the dubby beats of 'Hi Jynx'; the sadness of 'Loss' leading into the beatless forlorn 'The Ballad of Darth Vader. The album ups the pace with the muffled kicks and warm atmosphere of 'Afternoon Sunshine', which sets the tone for the happier mood of the second half. This all leads up to the album's denoeument in final track 'Secret Garden' whose naïve meandering synth melodies, orchestral accompaniment and glockenspiel end the album in happy resolution.

Olderic and Musumeci, whose friendship and close alliance is layering on their deep passion for electronic music, are stepping up to compile and mix the sixth instalment of Compost Records’ Black Label Series DJ mix compilation. Both artists steadily and successfully shaping and contributing a modern, forward thinking approach of dance music and club culture – made in Italy.

Olderic, heading from Venice, is resident DJ at one of the most influential underground clubs in Italy – CirQ – where he’s got a perfect platform to shape his unique style as a DJ but also gaining invaluable inspiration for his own productions. His “Alma EP” released on Compost Black in 2015 as well as his recent remix for Musumeci & The Element and a soon to be released collaboration with Peter Pardeike (both for Connaisseur) are state of the art house music and received support by the likes of Mano Le Tough, Âme, Laurent Garnier, Tale Of Us or Ewan Pearson to name a few. Whereas Sicily based Musumeci, also part of the project Human Machine – making big waves with their “146 EP” these days, is one of the masterminds behind the superb Italian underground label Engrave Ltd – and a top notch DJ of course!

This being said, we are more than happy that Olderic & Musumeci now teamed up to compile and mix the next chapter of our Black Label Series. The duo did a superb job digging the crates and putting their favourite tunes of our rich and eclectic catalogue into motion. Paying attention to the labels recent years true highlights as well as adding some of their personal secret weapons in form of Musumeci & Olderic Special Edits – now exclusively available as part of the compilation for the first time. Olderic and Musumeci drawing a very personal picture and show how to shift from more leftfield and disco tinged territories to modern House, Techno and beyond to otherworldly regions of dance music with this fluent yet diverse mix which is touching all the right spots and senses – on and off the dancefloor!

The Waystation; a point of congregation for unimaginable beings who seek refuge, resources or even knowledge regarding the various species that occupy nearby worlds. 

At this time, at the beginning of a new year, the vessel lends its halls to the beings of the Nostro Hood. A celebration to the glowing star that lights the terrain for so many beings as it ages yet another lifetime.
