Having spent the past year shaping their sound and tinkering knobs till their ears could take no more the band enlisted Robin Scmidt (The 1975, Everything Everything, Blur) to master their refreshed opening statement to the world. With ambition and talent drenching every band member Abandon Ship! launch this new era of fun fuelled riffs, lyrics wise beyond their years which is backed by a self-produced new visual branding to follow through the set of releases.
Like most teen friendships Abandon Ship!’s journey started at the only grimey bar they felt comfortable in and after a few chance meetings and a similar number early song-writing attempts with other outfits
Abandon Ship! found their place. Cabin Fever, small town syndrome, couple with ambition and goals drove positivity for the band coming from a town famous for roundabouts - welcome to the typically British town, Basingstoke. Tales of youth have inspired huge swathes of songs for generations, but it takes poignant lyrics, memorable musicianship and a well-shaped sound to make even the most charismatic up-starts anything more than that. It’s 13 years since the Arctic Monkeys debut stuffed “chip shop rock’n’roll” in our faces, but our faces are still full with the Monkeys carby warmth. Abandon Ship! have reinvented
the sound but delivering the same honesty we’re ready for another round of chips and gravy!

Lead singer Luke Burywood explains how ‘Say The Word’ was written “during a period of time where one of my best friends Nick and I used to go out ‘on the sesh’ all the time. It was definitely way too much for our health and financials but there’s not much else to do from round here. It was a whole lotta fun and a
lot of the lyrics are inspired by observations from that period of time.”
Luke has hidden subtleties in the lyrics “Nick got me into The Menzingers who have a song called ‘Casey’ which is a Grade A banger. ‘Say the Word’ features the opening lyric ‘Oh me and Casey’ which is a nod to Nick and The Menzingers. Nick eventually moved to Canada which is where the lyric ‘Now Casey’s half the
world away, it’s for the best I think you’d say’ came from.”
As well as being holed up in their home studio in the band have caught the attention of key promoters sharing stages with Milk Teeth, Muncie Girls, Larkins and more in the past year.
