FUNKY GONG
FUNKY GONG, also known as MINORU TSUNODA, is a music producer and DJ/guitarist. The term “FUNKY” in FUNKY GONG does not refer to the funk genre.
It functions as a guiding concept — a framework for integrating elements of rock, psychedelia, electronic music, and the structural aesthetics of techno,
with the objective of transcending both sonic and conceptual boundaries.

At the core of the project lies the convergence of two contrasting systems:
the precision and architectural detail of computer-based techno production,
and the physical, unpredictable qualities derived from live guitar performance.
This intersection establishes a hybrid sonic environment that operates beyond the conventional dichotomy of digital versus human expression.

The tension between techno’s repetition and structural clarity, and the dynamic, spontaneous nature of guitar-generated sound,
results in performances that remain formally grounded while continuously evolving in real time.
This controlled variability is a defining characteristic of FUNKY GONG’s musical approach.

Unrestricted by genre and unconstrained by established formats,
FUNKY GONG pursues new sonic territories through the lens of techno,
presenting an artistic identity that emphasizes innovation, hybridity, and boundary dissolution within the global electronic music landscape. Started playing classical guitar at the age of 12, he started composing music during junior high school. After graduating from high school, he pursued studies in Acoustic Engineering at Kyushu Institute of Technology. During his studies, he simultaneously engaged in band activities heavily influenced by alternative rock and funk, while learning the fundamental knowledge of sound engineering.

After graduation, while working as a sound engineer at live houses, he also started band activities. In 1998, he joined TSUYOSHI SUZUKI's unit "JOUJOUKA," which blended techno-trance with rock, and made a major debut from Toshiba EMI. He collaborated with various artists such as Tadanobu Asano, Sayoko Yamaguchi, YOUTH, Toshio Nakanishi, Poppy Kamiyama, Sandy, THE MAD CAPSULE MARKETS, SUGIZO, SYSTEM7, among others.

Simultaneously, under the artist name "FUNKY GONG," he began producing original techno-trance tracks as a DJ using DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). He released six albums as JOUJOUKA and three albums as FUNKY GONG. He performed five times in total at the FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL and conducted performances in 13 countries including NYC and London. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he executed a challenging idea by releasing 100 original tracks focusing on the theme of "Chill Out" on the music distribution site "Bandcamp" within four months. This initiative aimed at improving his musical skills further, engaging with fans, and expanding his fan base.

Continuing beyond his role as a DJ/artist, FUNKY GONG remains actively engaged in activities such as releasing original tracks, Remix Work, and establishing the online DTM school "FUZZ MUSIC SCHOOL." For more information, you can visit their website at https://fuzzmusicschool.com/
