Barney Kato, an active presence in the world of dance music for over 23 years, merges the magic of collective harmony and music, regularly captivating Eora / Sydney with his dynamic DJ sets and popular events like Alien and Breakbeat Chaos. As a globetrotter, an aficionado of futurist dance music, and a collector of experiences, he sees the DJ booth as an epicenter of energy manipulation, mixing classic and cutting-edge elements to move dancefloors of all sizes, reshaping experiences beyond familiar anthems. A resident of Sydney's Club 77, Barney curates nights, trains budding talents, and has made significant contributions to Newcastle and Sydney's electronic music scene since 2000, which include running parties, working in record stores, managing a record label, and hosting Fbi Radio Thursday Sunset for 15 years. Barney's DJ career highlights include spinning records at Australia's most iconic parties and festivals like Big Day Out, Splendour In The Grass, and more recently a set for Boiler at legendary Sydney venue, Hordern Pavilion.

That's right, 90 tracks of absolute bangers and handed them over to our very own JFB to mix, scratch and quite frankly, do what he does best with. Originally from Brighton, JFB is a 3 x world dmc dj champion, so it goes without saying that when asked to do a 'Welcome to the jungle' album, he went all out. Armed with 2 turntables and a bucket load of skills, JFB takes massive hits like 'King of the Bongo and Bad Boys by Ed Solo and Deekline, Home Grown by Beat Assassins and 10 Steps by Kleu & solo and puts his very own spin on them. (pardon the pun). Other hits on the album include 'Redline the system' by 'Morty & Jax' with some seriously heavy bassline and some wicked vocals. As 2017 draws to a close, we’re seeing the year out with the final edition in our Techno-led series; ‘Rhythm Distrikt 16’. Kicking things off is Cristian Varela with his brand new track ‘EK0L0G1K’ which delivers textural synths over a heavy bassline. Next up is long-standing Rhythm Distrikt favourite, Dino Maggiorana with the instantly memorable ‘Deep Inside’. A track which offers the perfect combination of drums and melodic FX patterns with a hooky vocal layered over the top. Joe Mesmar returns to the label with ‘I’ll Be’, and in true Mesmar fashion, this one promises something a little more atmospheric with clever FX and hypnotic synths used in all the right places. Axel Karakasis is welcomed back with his rough and ready ‘Layer’ which captures that distinct, raw, Rhythm Distrikt sound. Other highlights include Durtysoxxx’s peak-time roller, ’Spam’, Tomy DeClerque & Dani Sbert’s hard-hitting ‘Overload’, Optimuss’ addictive groover, ’On The Limit’ and Gayle San’s sinister ‘Border’. Completing the package is Groovebox & Paralyze Idea’s ‘Echo Lake’ and Rhythm Distrikt newcomer Hiroyuki Arakawa with his debut track on the label ‘Alexander’. Jam-packed with ten brand new killer cuts for the tougher dance floors, ‘Rhythm Distrikt 16’ looks set to destroy dancefloors the world over!

Music from one of the most beautiful mornings of my life. Thank you to everyone who danced into this perfect day with me.. 
Having been going to Fusion for 10 years, this was a dream come true and I probably never was so excited and nervous before a set. Although I imagined how it hopefully would be, the moment itself exceeded my expectations and I just couldn't stop smiling. I feel very grateful that my vision of what a sunrise at Fusion can sound like resonated so well with you all.. 
Please excuse the occasional audio glitches - there was a voltage problem with the mixer which made the audio cut out at random moments. There aren't too many of those though :)

A Sunrise at Fusion Festival - Seebühne, 2018

This is the set I played on Monday Morning from 7.30-10am in Räuberhöhle at Fusion 2019.. 
I have to be honest, this gig was one of the most challenging I have ever played. After all, what can you still add after 5 days and nights of amazing music, performances, art and beautiful connections ? Adding on top of that my own state after having been on site from the start.. it made for some serious pre-gig thoughts of „whats this gonna be like“. But when I stepped into the madness that is Räuberhöhle on a Monday Morning, all was forgotten. It’s hard to put into words the energy of the crowd during those 2,5 hours.. like last year, I had a hard time stopping to smile. Thank you to all the dancers and to the Räuberhöhle crew for making this amazing little techno kitchen boil over with such energy from start to finish <3

"I'm just trying to get through as many songs as possible," explained Nile Rodgers. The audience could perhaps have worked this out without his help: there's something joyfully relentless about the the latter-day Chic Organisation's approach to live performance. Everybody Dance, Dance Dance Dance, I'm Coming Out, Upside Down, He's The Greatest Dancer and We Are Family: that's not the edited highlights, that's the opening salvo of songs. If the aim is to make you boggle at the sheer quantity of massive hits Rodgers has authored, it works. Even when he pulls out a relatively unknown number - Soup For One, from a 1982 film soundtrack – it turns into a cover of a hit that sampled it, Lady by Modjo. Perhaps understandably, an atmosphere of mild delirium seems to settle on the audience, many of whom seem extremely well-refreshed indeed: when Chic perform Let's Dance, which Rodgers co-wrote with David Bowie, their singing momentarily threatens to drown out the band entirely. After the set's close – a mammoth version of Good Times interpolated with sections of The Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight, with dozens of audience members dancing onstage – the band leave. Rodgers remains, while the PA blares out Daft Punk's Get Lucky. The crowd stay too, bellowing the song back at him. He looks genuinely moved..
