After an incredibly successful 2020 and the release of label-head Toronto Is Broken's third critically acclaimed third album "Clare", YANA Music continues their momentum into 2021.

2021 brings a fresh aesthetic and batch of artists for YANA, beginning with young UK-based producer Corrupted Mind. First featured on last year's YANA2020 album, Corrupted Mind returns with his first of many solo singles on the label, the heavyweight "Disengage".

A straight soundsystem-shaker, Corrupted Mind manages to incorporate jump up and neurofunk flavours into his dancefloor sound, not only showing his versatility and broad range of influence as a producer, but also offering something new to the YANA Music camp.

Having enjoyed the honour of launching the label last summer with the highly acclaimed ‘Firethorn’ and ‘Pandorum’, Frankee’s doubled his dynamite with no less than four dancefloor-focussed slices of absolute bass gold.
Showcasing his creative range with depth and clarity, every element on this EP is coated in a robust sense of timeless drum & bass magic and melody: Nodding at the scene’s rich past, while pushing us as far into the future as possible, each cut will quickly find its way to the very top of your playlist.
We launch with ‘Harlequin’, a purring roller that’s devilishly simple but demonically effective. A groaning bassline and tubular subs vie for your attention as the steppy riddim drills the message home with such razor-sharp punctuation, each additional percussive element that’s added as the track develops causes major chaos.
Next-up ‘Paranormal’. An instant hair-raiser, the quintessential pitched down pianos conjure up 25 years of rave heritage in one simple reverberated strike. Then, before nostalgia kicks in too much, in fires a scorching bassline that grizzles and kicks its way through the mix with uncompromising menace. If you thought the low-end growls of Frankee’s previous release were stuff of legend, just wait until you hear this bass behemoth!
‘Saffron’ follows. Oozing low-end luxury and a swift, skippy riddim, it’s an instant groove massage laced with floating vocal textures and emotive, ethereal pads. An instant hypnotiser, it instantly flies your floor to places they didn’t even know existed. Paying respect to the expensive, aromatic delicacies of its namesake, ‘Saffron’ more than lives up to its name.
Finally we hit ‘Flintstone’. Concluding this epic tale with a wry grin, it’s the perfect balance of deep, dark rollage and subtle humour. The overwhelmingly warm sub squiggles, icy pads and textured percussive dynamics make this track a must for all record boxes!
Seldom does an EP come with such a fitting title…Not just a bold statement of dancefloor intent, each of these four cuts mark a quintessential turning point in Frankee’s promising career. From young hopeful to bona fide hot prospect, Frankee has firmed up a front row seat in D&B’s future.

It’s been quite a year for our budding 22 year old Christian Hoffmann, AKA Toronto Is Broken. A debut LP Section Nine dropping at the start of the year and releases on Viper & Technique Recordings throughout the summer, you’d think that would be enough? Well it’s not, TiB’s not quite finished the year off just yet. Ladies & Gentlemen, introducing the first in a series on club focus singles from TiB: Way Down & Original.

Onto the music… Way Down, it’s certainly not something you’d expect to hear from TiB and it’s certainly a positive move into the dance floor banger arena. Hooky bleeps, marching beats and teeth shattering subs. This one’s got more funk than James Brown and more swagger than Jagger. Watch out for that second drop!

Original see’s TiB don his junglist cap for the vocal flex but the track is just outright Drum & Bass filth. The bassline on Original is all consuming and ready to destroy anything in it’s path.

Shaping your own sound as a producer is a tricky business in drum and bass but Ozma has certainly nailed it. From his 2018 ‘The Adventures' EP it was clear that this talented producer from Russia had crafted his own unique blend of drum and bass which certainly borders on the line of insanity.

Take ‘Kingdom’ for example. Intro wise it delivers an atmospheric blend of building block beats and synth risers but the drop....the drop! A mental mashup of plugged out synth notes, clunky snares and drip fed basslines. Ozma certainly isn’t messing about with this release.

‘The Witch’ is a trip into the world of circuit bent 16-bit video game hijinx. Imagine Wonder Boy on acid and you’re on the right wavelength. ‘Iron Hammer’, a tune previously released in
2018 gets the VIP treatment with additional synth atmospherics and a ton of extra attitude. Taking elements of early hardcore stabs and the drive of a crazed gorilla, the cleverly named ‘Combo Bongo’ features a neat vocal sample and tripped up breakbeats that collide in perfect form with the tracks midrange bassline.

Wrapping things up ‘Expect’ continues the vibe but this time throws in some live vocals for good measure. Switching between half tempo and 175 odd, it’s one for the alternative crowd who likes to expect the unexpected. What else would you expect from Ozma? I mean,
seriously..

Diverse as they come and certainly another special signing for Serial Killaz, this EP is sure to appeal to fans inside and out of the genre.

It's time for some veteran business on Technique Recordings. We've already seen T-Phonic dropping bombs on the label with his almighty team-ups with Deadman (now operating under the name Al Storm), and, of course, Sense's name will be familiar to all real heads. Whether you know him from his long-standing Moondance residency, his huge collabs with the likes of Peshay and J Majik or his heavyweight solo back cat, it's clear he brings some serious pedigree to the table.

So, what's the story here?

The first track is called 'Junglist Murderer' and, seemingly, it does exactly what the title suggests. We're thrown headlong into a landscape of rave stabs, manipulated breaks and ragga vocals. But that's just the intro. With an OJ's ear for twisting up styles and patterns, T-Phonic and Sense build to a drop which presents a whole different angle.

The gut-rupturing two-step drums and insistently grinding bass, punctuated and accentuated by masterful break-deployment connect the foundational elements of junglism directly to today's DnB dancefloors.

Then, 'Vanished Without a Trace' displays a whole other facet to T-Phonic and Sense's style. Cinematic layers of warm and enveloping synth-work paint an epic sci-fi setting, supplemented by the eponymous dialogue sample. We're in a world of huge, rising, hopeful chords, but with an insidious note of darkness and danger just under the surface.

The pounding savagery of the drop punches a hole straight through whatever gentle and comforting warmth there might have been in the intro's harmonies. Now we're down to business with explosive drums and shuddering low-end, and paranoid rising tones keeping the tension at heart-troubling levels. T-Phonic and Sense aren't close to being done there, though. They've saved some of their most twisted modulations for the second drop, making this a versatile weapon for creative deejays.

There's a combination of styles here, as junglist influences meld with modern dancefloor DnB. T-Phonic and Sense have delivered two tunes that are going to find a place in sets across the drum 'n' bass scene and beyond. Unmissable.
