We are happy to continue our Schleichcast series with another live special featuring Wavin Silhouettes! Almost 5 months ago, on a hot day in mid-July, the super lovely and talented downtempo trio from Stuttgart opened our openair event at Frida Pier’s Oberdeck. Relistening is like an ode to last summer with some dusty memories coming up that seem somewhat far away now, but at the same time offer a glimmer of hope thinking about the circle of seasons with the winter solstice approaching already. This podcast itself is an invitation to dream and dance while immersing into a sonic journey with hypnotic melodies and driving rhythms - an organic fusion of handpan, cello, guitar, vocals and deep basslines. Enjoy this slow yet dynamic ride (just the way we love it) and thank you so much @wavin-silhouettes for your trust - it’s an honor being able to finally release your liveset on this platform! <3

>>Wer seid ihr und woher kommt ihr?
Wir sind David, Hannah und Jannis und zusammen machen wir als Wavin Silhouettes Musik. Dabei kombinieren wir Handpan, Cello und Gitarre mit Beats und Basslines. Wir kommen aus Stuttgart und Umgebung. Außerdem sind wir Teil des Art:al-Kollektivs und des L!VE Kollektivs.

>>Wie kamt ihr zum Musik machen?
David und Jannis machen schon seit fünf Jahren Musik zusammen. Uns verbinden nächtelange Jam- und Studio Sessions, in denen wir uns experimentell ausgelebt und auch viel Quatsch zusammen gemacht haben. Hannah ist 2023 dazugestoßen und hat nicht nur die Klangwelt des Cellos, sondern auch musikalische Professionalität mitgebracht. Das war der Startschuss für das Projekt Wavin Silhouettes.

>>Was hat euch für das Set inspiriert?
Das Set ist das Produkt unserer gemeinsamen Geschichte. Einige Beats sind schon vor Jahren entstanden und mit den Erfahrungen und musikalischen Einflüssen von uns drei gewachsen. Andere Songs sind kurz vorher entstanden. Unsere Inspiration ziehen wir aus den Momenten, in denen wir zusammen Musik machen und in einen Flow kommen oder wenn wir auf der Bühne stehen, die Sonne untergeht und wir merken, dass auf dem Dancefloor ein besonderer Vibe entsteht.
 
>>Was gefällt euch besonders an "langsamer" Musik?
Downtempo ist an und für sich einfach eine cute Bubble. Musikalisch ist langsamere Musik toll, weil genug Raum da ist für alle möglichen Spielereien und wir lieben es, uns dort auszutoben. Wir haben die Erfahrung gemacht, dass, wenn man bei langsamerer Musik genau hin spürt, man für jeden Klang genug Zeit hat, um ihn zu fühlen. Man kann sich dann irgendwie auf einer tieferen Ebene darauf einlassen.

>>Welche Ziele als Künstler:innen wollt ihr noch erreichen?
Genug Zeit finden, um neue Musik zu kreieren und Livesets vorzubereiten. Das wäre schon richtig toll! Wir haben oft wilde und super experimentelle Ideen, wobei uns dann für die Ausarbeitung doch die Zeit fehlt. Neben der Lohnarbeit ist es leider oft nicht einfach, genug Raum für solche Herzensprojekte zu finden. Vielleicht entwickelt sich das Projekt ja so, dass es in Zukunft leichter wird, sich diese Zeit nehmen zu können.

>>Möchtet ihr auf etwas Aufmerksam machen, dass euch beschäftigt? 
Wir finden in Stuttgart fehlen Räume und Förderungen für die subkulturelle Szene. Initiativen wie das Interkollektive Meetup – ein Netzwerk aus Stuttgarter Kollektiven und Akteur*innen – engagieren sich bereits für solche Begegnungsräume und die Förderung der (Sub-)Kulturen. Doch fehlende finanzielle Mittel und die Priorisierung wirtschaftlicher Interessen machen diese Arbeit oft schwer.
Stuttgart braucht mehr Orte und Möglichkeiten die Akteur*innen der Subkultur und Besucher*innen Raum geben, sich kreativ und gemeinschaftlich zu entfalten – unkommerziell und zugänglich. Solche Freiräume bereichern unsere Stadt, fördern Wertschätzung und Respekt mit- und untereinander und machen sie lebenswerter. <3
