Having been available exclusively as the second disc to 2015's 'Collaborative Works', Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm's improvised audio recordings 'Trance Frendz', taken from their 45-minute studio film of the same name, have been given their own vinyl release – out March 4th, 2016.

Prior to a string of collaborative Erased Tapes releases, which include 2012's 'Stare' 10” and last year’s 'Life Story Love and Glory' 7” and 'Loon' 12” – compiled on the 'Collaborative Works' 2-CD set, Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm spent many hours together in their studios across Berlin and Reykjavik. Both have carved out genre-defying musical careers and formed unique live shows, creating a fan base loyal to their prolific output.

During a session at Durton Studio in Berlin last summer, Nils and Ólafur invited Alexander Schneider and his camera to document it. The recording continued long after the first take, stretching out into the next day until, eventually, several new improvisations had been recorded in 8 hours with no overdubs or edits. The unexpected nature in which these pieces had been created was reminiscent of their first on-stage improvisation many years ago. It became immediately clear how special these songs were.

Originally made available as a 45-minute film on their joint website (www.arnaldsfrahm.com) last September, 'Trance Frendz' will be available to own on vinyl from March 4th, 2016.

Solo Remains are previously unreleased tracks from Nils Frahm’s album Solo, which was recorded on the M370, the world’s largest piano, built by the visionary piano maker David Klavins in 1987.

Nils fell in love with the sound of this giant and joined David for the new project – building an even higher piano – the Model 450. The aim of it is to explore the not yet reached physical limits of the piano instrument and also to push forward into new musical dimensions. The M450 will be characterized by an even clearer sound with more depth and richness of overtones as well as an unrivaled frequency spectrum and intensity of sound and tone. In time for the 2nd anniversary of Piano Day, Nils decided to give four previously unreleased songs from that very session to his fans and supporters of the Klavins 450 project.

“In the end, every album production leaves you with the same tough task – making the choices for the final track selection. You leave out some tracks for various reasons: some of the tracks are wonderful by themselves, but they simple don’t fit anywhere in the album and others have to be left out because otherwise the vinyl would become too long for a cut in good quality. However, these outtakes are often as important as the final selection and I thought, they might be a great surprise for Piano Day too. I hope in this case, it’s both …”

Auf dem Festivalacker ist @jpattersson auf das Werk „Protetores & Orixás“ von Xique-Xique (@djdunwich) aufmerksam geworden. „Als erstes habe ich den Song in einem Set von Monte Cumbia im Salon de Baile auf der Fusion 2016 gehört“, erzählt der Produzent von Acker Records. Die einfachen Harmonien, die fast mantraartig immer wiederholt werden, gingen ihm danach nicht mehr aus dem Kopf: „Ich schrieb Xavier aka Xique-Xique und fragte, ob ich einen Edit aufnehmen kann. International Deejay Gigolo Records are releasing a remix compilation of DJ Hell produced experimental track „Wir Reiten Durch Die Nacht“, taken from his 5th studio album „Zukunftsmusik“.
 
This release features remixes of internationally renowned artists such as Adriatique, Deetron, Marc Houle and Coyu. First up is Adriatique’s remix, a reflection of their own interpretation of electronic music with a strong and playful vibe. Followed by Deetron’s production, a cool and twisted reimagination of the original with his own trademark sound. Coyu’s remix is a dancefloor ready interpretation of the original cut, with a decidedly more pumped up and dark atmosphere. Last but not least, Marc Houle’s production stands out with it’s arty and eclectic soundscape, focusing on the core elements of the original.

Will be Released in Spring 2018.

UK composer Matt Emery follows his extraordinarily beautiful debut album Empire (September 2017) with a brand new single, ‘I Put a Flame in Your Heart’. Released digitally on September 7th 2018 via Injazero Records, the single is a delicate piano composition featuring a wave of 8 pianos meandering through the piece in a wistful and atmospheric mood, delivered with the sombre grace of heavyweights such as Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds and Chilly Gonzales. 

The full band version sees Emery's music swell with frantic drums, throbbing synths and a full choir culminating in an expansive interpretation, more aggressive in comparison to his gentle and intricate modern classical piano and string repertoire. It fuses the post rock intensity and epic feel of bands like Mogwai and Sigur Ros, while the energetic live drums and piano loops bring to mind DJ Shadow. 

Completing the three-track release is the stunning remix by currently one of the UK’s most exciting electronic bands Vessels, who put their gritty and glitchy spin on the original à la Jon Hopkins, Rival Consoles and Kiasmos.

‘Music for the Edge of an Island’ sees Abbott divert from his typically experimental electronic style to explore a more compositional approach centred around VST instruments. Rather than the usual themes of synthesis and improvisation, the album is lead by piano motifs, structured around emotive melodies and sparkling arrangements. The record began as a part of a soundtrack commission by producer / actor Jessica Hynes for her film ‘The Fight’ and ultimately became a fully-realised album. The film script had a coastal setting that created the record’s thematic idea: “I had this idea about being on the edge of England, almost ready to fall off a cliff into the sea but keeping your balance on the edge.”

Hania Rani is a pianist, composer and musician who splits her life between Warsaw, where she makes her home, and Berlin where she studied and often works. She has written for strings, piano, voice and electronics and has collaborated with the likes of Christian Löffler, Dobrawa Czocher and Hior Chronik, and released an album with her Polish group tęskno last year. She has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in Europe - from the National Philharmony in Warsaw, to Funkhaus in Berlin, to The Roundhouse in London (where she made her debut at the Gondwana 10thanniversary festival last October) and at festivals such as Open'er, Scope Festival and Eurosonic. Her compositions for solo piano were born out of a fascination with the piano as an instrument, and her desire to interpret its sound and harmonic possibilities in their entirety and in her own way.

'Esja' is her debut solo album and for Rani it is her first, real, personal statement as an artist. "No hiding behind the "collaborations" or "projects" anymore. For the very first time, finally - just me, as I am".

Recorded at Rani's apartment in Warsaw (the piano room has a beautiful reverb and the space has become part art studio and part sound laboratory for Rani) and at her friend Bergur Þórisson'sstudio in Reykjavik, Esja is a series of beautiful melodic vignettes. Sensual, sensitive, rhythmic, atmospheric, free but harmonious, beguiling and hypnotic, collectively they project a sense of unlimited space and time.
