Frenchman Christopher Kah has an impeccable “story so far” having released & remixed his take on Techno, with & for Genre Icons Terence Fixmer, Dave Clarke, Anthony Rother, Mount Sims & Laurent Garnier.

His own releases are regularly supported by some of Technos biggest international Stars, like UK’s Dave Clarke, USA born Plastikman, and Germanys prime mover & cultural innovator Dr. Motte.
Therefore it is no real surprise that it is on Dr. Mottes very own PRAXXIZ records that we are treated to Christopher Kahs latest & quiet superb Room 4 EP, which showcases the wide ranging production talents & deep understanding of his chosen creative zone that mark him out as very much a true player and a man clearly giving his beloved Techno a lot of love !

All 4 tracks Slowly, Room 4, Misery & Addict, display a finely crafted fusion of the essential aspects of various branches from Techno`s very own Tree Of Life. All in all a real treat for open minded Minimalists, Detroit devotees & proper Techno supporters. There´s even a tip of the hat to Techno´s partly Industrial roots and a hint of Electronic Listening Music. Its all in there!

The real strength of this release is how Christopher crafts all these influences together in a way that leads the listener to acknowledge their presence, but into an end result that is not easy to define or pidgeon hole. The mark of a true Artist?

Christopher Kah shows in no uncertain terms why he is considered by some of Technos most Wanted, to be a name to be well and truly reckoned with. & PRAXXIZ show very clearly that their big picture is getting bigger, und es ist gut so!

Schneeweiss IV: a collaboration of neighbours. 

Over the years, Oliver Koletzki has continuously cited Berlin as a point of reference and, more importantly, a source of inspiration. Two of his albums – Großstadtmärchen and Großstadtmärchen 2 – have been a direct ode to the capital. Friedrichshain, one of Berlin’s vibrant districts, has always held a special place in Oliver’s heat. This is where he started out when he first moved to the city, and this is where he lives now. Moreover, the Stil vor Talent HQ is situated in the centre of the bustling Kiez. 

So is Schneeweiss, one of Friedrichhain’s best and most loved restaurants. Over the course of eight years, the stylish eatery has impressed many a Berlin foodie with its contemporary take on alpine cuisine and attention to detail. Music is part of the experience here, which is no surprise due to one of the owners’ extensive background in Berlin’s club scene of the early days. Pairing striking award-winning interior design with a homely laid-back atmosphere, Schneeweiss welcomes everyone with open arms: Kiez locals and celebrities, students and businessmen, hipsters and families – all can be found here, Oliver Koletzki among them. 

Thus, after many a late-night label dinner an idea slowly formed. Why not join forces and collaborate on a compilation that represents both, Oliver Koletzki’s and Schneeweiss’ taste? Self-disclosed as an artist ‘between house and techno’, Lausanne-based newcomer Jeremy Vieira aka Several Definitions rolls out his first release on SVT, 'No Artificial'.

The EP opens up with ‘Wind and Waves’, a dark tech-house build up with uplifting synths accented by avian trills that give the track an eerie jungle mood, tailored for the late night freaks. Boy Next Door is enlisted to add more depth and pace, turning the track into an even more profound nocturnal exploration, underlined by swirling analog synths.

The 7-minute long ‘Intro,’ of which we exclusively premiere today, speaks for itself, as it gradually introduces the artist’s core sound elements that can be recognized shape shifting throughout the EP. Several Definitions hauled KlangKuenstler for the remix, giving the track a complete club anthem makeover with an infusion of wobbly synths and extra groove. ‘No Artificial Comments’ showcases yet again the artist’s knack for propulsion, as metronomic throbs develop a hypnotic synth-laden, last-track-of-the-festival, eyes-to-the-sky kind of feeling.

02 Cityseven Communique with Luke Brancaccio & guest Several Definitions

Kyle Watson, the South African producer who has been wrecking the dancefloor like a one-man demolition crew, swings back around for round two with This Ain’t Bristol. After absolutely crushing it with his Watermelons / Fly With Me EP from last year, he brings the same wobbly edge on his second appearance, 'Rhinoceros,' a from-the-wild two-tracker that’s sure to rattle a few cages. Living on the flip is “The Cone,” which sees Watson getting phenomenally wavy with oscillating basslines that slink and slide beneath silky-smooth arpeggs and a seemingly satisfied-to-the-core vocal sample.

Dreamy aesthetics intertwine with dancefloor athletics in Several Definitions’ You Are Not Alone EP. The title track emerges via a slow paced wandering bassline, making for a gradually immersive intro. Padded with ethereal synths and aerial whizzes, Alone’s dreaminess increases tenfold showcasing the artist’s crafty melodic side. Hatzler jumps in on the remix, kicking off with a bumping bassline from the get-go. Injecting bass and grit is one of his known production traits, and he manages to give Alone a straightforward, still dreamy yet solid groove appeal. Antala sets off with thumping bass drums, laying the foundation for an ascending synth array. Melancholy is key, as grave synth loops layer onto dramatic strings, creating a tightly wound arrangement. Bjoern Stoerig’s rework comes with added drum loops and high pitched synths, as he aptly shifts the track’s dramatic high points, reconstructing the overall resonance. Despite its jovial name, Esmeralda comes in the form of a dark and murky melody, accented with sharp busts and winding synth bits. Esmeralda’s mood upholds the collective gloominess of the entire lot and offers up an intricate incursion into deep tech realm.

It is to no surprise that the nine track album has already received enormous support from fellow French pioneer, Laurent Garnier on his ‘It is What It Is’ radio show, an immediate stamp of approval from a highly respected peer, only expected to increase over the coming period as the world receives Kah’s latest statement.

Each of the outings on the album attract you in with a soft whispering female voice, setting the tone for the next chapter, with opening track ‘Enlightenment’ igniting with the words “The Beginning”, and so it begins. Steering clear of the generic four to the floor, the thudding broken drums, flashing vocal, and pensive synth work make this an eclectic inception to the body of work and Christopher Kah’s universe. ‘History’ follows up with a gradual and steady lift through organic drumwork, a somewhat eerie and dark mood that grips you. Shuffling movements in ‘Paternity’ lean this toward a trip hop entity, conjoined with melodic synths which bring an engrossing angle. ‘Glorious Sun’ is 3 minutes of distinctive ambience, as the female chants drag you out of the rain, transcending you in the next soundscape. A sense of panic in urgency in ‘Run Run After’ creating imagery of an intense chase, a nod towards the hay days of Drum & Bass, an expected, thrashing number adding to the bizarre curation.

Another discerning journey lowering the heart rate in ‘Disturbancy - Initiate’ a chugging sci-fi trip leading you into murky waters or mystery. Psychedelic and peculiar spoken words work their way around the body of the track in ‘Damaged’, the voices embedding firmly in your mind enforcing a loss of your surroundings. The aptly named ‘Mirage’ tantalises your thought process, launching you deeper into this out earth excursion to the point of no return. Encapsulating the rollercoaster of emotion your body has encountered in one track, allowing the escapism to intensify, painting the last strokes on the canvas, building mellowly to a graceful ending of the visual experience. An unimaginable force that has cut deeper than the skin.

Bonus track ‘14 Ans’ lifts spirits with probably the most funk orientated arrangement out of the nine, a pleasant experience allowing time to stop and reflect on the experience that laid before you.

Kah’s recent endeavours do not halt here, as he recently propelled his ECHO LIVE project into the music cosmos, a collaboration with veterans of the game, Roland. The live moniker sees Christopher utilising the bare amount of two machines, a Roland MC-707 and Roland TR-8S, proving once again it is more than possible to create intelligent music with minimum resources.

There was never a doubt in anyone's mind that Kah could take us to this visually outer universe location, but now there is evidence for all to absorb and endure. A fantastic display of sound variation, bridging across contrasting moods and atmospheres, with pure emotion seeping through the gaps.
