Julean Rai is the founder of the indie-folk band Julean and the Rai with a career spanning over 30 years.

The band -- previously known as AXIS, Julian Rai, and Avallon Rai -- has transformed many times and was a part of music scenes in cities across the US, Mexico, and Europe.

Founded in Dayton, Ohio in 1995, the band then moved to Colorado, Austin, Tucson, and New York City where they became part of the "Anti-folk" scene and established themselves as a standout act, alongside other NYC antifolk acts like  and . In 2008, the band went to Europe and were a huge success in Poland.

They returned to the US, living and performing in San Francisco, Tijuana, and San Diego before relocating to the music scene in Denver, Colorado.

Julean and the Rai have 12 live and studio releases, including the most recent release , and are remastering several albums for re-release in 2023. Julean is a talented artist with a dynamic voice, known for his passionate onstage vocal delivery. As a guitarist, known for his speed and rhythmic control, his delicate and versatile playing style swings wildly from soft and subtle to fast and breakneck. With nearly three decades of experience, Julean has honed his skills and developed a unique sound that sets him apart from other musicians.

Chester started his musical journey with youth club band The Enchanters. 
With a released single 'Live Upright' they performed at GLC (Greater London Council) sponsored Rock Against Racism shows across the UK sharing a  stage with different genres of bands and artists like 
Misty In Roots, The Clash, XTC,  Aswad, Pete Townshend and Friends, The Cool Notes, Adam Ant, Jimmy Lindsay and The Ruts who had a major hit with 'The Babylon's Burning'.
For the past 10years Chester has been playing for 3 cover bands including  funk band Unikque as band leader, and bassist for London Party Club Soul and Function band The Funky Funks. 
Chester has also been a last minute dep for The Steve Johnson band, Groove Republic, Vintage Soul Collective and Izo Fitzroy album promotion at Red Rooster Festival. 
His latest project is Chester Bassman and Friends which has released their first single for 2020 FOREVER which can be found on YouTube and all major online stores.
