Days are disappearing and nights are taking over. We witness a burst of colour just before it clears space for the bright white blanket. And this new season brings another Amselcom release.

Sweden’s Victor Norman is guided by the signs of the time in his extraordinary track “Hymn”. He gently unites depth and gloom with fragile melancholy to form a moving and sensual track.

Bernstein and Birds of Mind attend to the original, each concentrating on a different characteristic. While the former adds drive to underline the verve of the tune, the French duo intensifies the melodic and frisky side of the track.

To round off the release, Victor teams up with slowmo specialist Harro Triptrap in a hot turn. “Mimikry” first appears to be a peaceful creature, but its rogue character eventually shows itself.

Winter treats us to storms and nights of fire. And these feelings are captured by the photographer Xiao Yang, adding the perfect optical surrounding to the release.

Having made an undeniable contribution to the legacy of electronic music in Detroit over the last twenty years, Matthew Dear arrives at Planet E with a new alias, simply known as Brain. The latest in a legacy of Dear's influential techno projects including False, Jabberjaw and Audion, The World EP finds the veteran producer still moving ever-forward.

Originally debuting on Carl Craig’s acclaimed Detroit Love Vol.2 mix compilation in 2019, the introductory ‘Boss’ is a psychedelic tunnel that takes full advantage of Dear’s nous for detail, as a submissive vocal delivers a number of distinctive requests amid the lustrous texture of the Brain project, both hyper-detailed and deliciously minimal. This same sense of patience and space drives ‘Corrections’, a knotty, rolling masterpiece of digital distortion that unfolds into a valley of spacious breakbeats, before reconstructing itself back to visceral analogue pleasure.

Getting deeper still as the record progresses, ‘Rafe’ takes place in the hinterland between full-throttle rave ecstasy and unadulterated deeperness, as if gasping and exhaling with pleasure and relief. ‘Snake Head’ operates in an upper echelon of tempo that speaks for another variation of electro from Detroit’s community, collapsing into a trancelike passage of outright oddness. 

The World EP will be released in digital form initially during the lockdown period, with a 2x12" vinyl release to follow in September 2020 featuring the additional production, 'Tantricity'. Clocking in at 24mins, this understated epic offers a tumbling, occasionally indescribable journey through passage upon passage of Brain’s ultra-precise and unpredictable world, a euphoric and occasionally unsettling masterclass in suspense and release.

If you want a snapshot of where techno stands in any given year, and a preview of where it’s headed, look no further than Drumcode’s A-Sides compilation. Since 2012 it has marked the label debuts of countless vital Drumcode artists and affiliates, from Layton Giordani, Wehbba and Boxia, to Amelie Lens and ANNA, no less. Every year, new names are unearthed, tried and true techno contributors serve up their best, and icons of the industry land their debut on Adam Beyer’s storied label.

The 2020 edition hits with 13 tracks, eight coming from label debutants. There’s Eats Everything searing rave bomb ‘Organico’ and Dubfire’s ice-cool electro offering ‘Deadbug’, both artists landing their maiden contributions to DC after long affiliations with Beyer. With three EPs in less than two years on Truesoul, Oscar L steps up to DC, showing the breadth of his sound palette with a soaring, synth-laden gem ‘Dark Fate’. Belgians Joyhauser featured at last year’s Drumcode Festival paving the way for ‘Fierceness’, a beautiful melody-drenched cut befitting their DC cap. Anfisa Letyago is another first timer and shows why she’s one of the scene’s most highly touted new artists with the brooding beast ‘Are You In’. A growing label favourite, Juliet Fox follows up ‘Was Beautiful’, her superb track on last year’s A-Sides, with ‘Our Fantasy’, reinforcing her skill for crafting anthemic techno compositions. Thomas Schumacher & Victor Ruiz link and the result is ‘Intuit’, a sleek futuristic roller that hits you square between the eyes. Other highlights come from longtime Drumcode cohorts Reset Robot and Harvey McKay, who both dish up premium works, reinforcing their classy productions nous.

"Our new Chrom release comes again out of Mexico: only 4 months after his successful "De Javu" debut EP on Chrom Recordings, we are very happy to welcome Mario Zetter back on our label. In between he also had a collab track with Alfonso G on our Mexico 2020 Album. His new EP is called "Moai" and contains 3 fantastic very catchy originals, balancing somewhere between indie dance, tribal and melodic house, each unique in their own way. This time we didn't back up the originals with remixes because we believe his previous Chrom tracks made enough impression, resulting in some nice features & chartings on Beatport.

But for those who don't know Zetter yet: he is one of the driving forces behind the famous Esto Es Tulum Festival in Mexico. He began his career in 1988, influenced by new beat, acid house & industrial techno and performing under the underground alias Plastiko, as pioneer and resident dj in the best clubs all over Mexico. During all these years he has build up an impressive experience and musical knowledge. Nowadays he is member of the "TRECEVEINTE (13:20)" project which he founded in 2018. TRECEVEINTE is a Live Ethnic & Electronica fusion band consisting of Mario Zetter himself together with Victor Ortiz (The Note V) and Osiris Heyerdahl. They are the resident artists of the Esto Es Tulum Festival in Mexico."

As everybody knows, these current times force us to stay home, not attending events, and our industry is suffering a lot from this situation. Nonetheless we need to stay positive and keep sharing our best music, keep dreaming of a better future and why not travelling to far musical galaxies with our mind. That's exactly what Fernando Lagreca proposes on his new EP called "Andromedah", already his third EP for Chrom Recordings.

Fernando Lagreca is a very proactive artist. Next to being manager & agency owner and teaching music business in several schools & academies, he plays live acts with hardware instruments only. And while he is, like everyone of us, in the waiting game until Covid is over and we can all dance again, he has spent long hours in the studio. This has led to producing his most eclectic adventurous sound, resulting in an entire new album (based on RnB, neo-soul and 90's electronica tones), some cinematic & ambient sample packs, a couple of upcoming remixes, and this EP for Chrom, a total journey into a melodic and organic planet.

"Andromedah", the track that gives title to this EP, is a trancy melodic tune that rocket us into a space travel, discovering a total new galaxy of intricate arpeggios, a beat+bass valley made to shine on the dancefloor and a hypnotic riff that won't disappoint anyone who shares the taste for tech harmonies. The second original track "Moordale" is the fiction name of an imaginary town, a town where all its inhabitants are techno fan living beings. As good techno organisms, all the people there go raving all the time, they like labyrinths as deep as the arps & synths on the track and of course they are all converted parishioners of the sound church of Moordale.

On remixes duties, this time we can't do much better. In both cases we've got totally new dimensions. On the one hand, the spanish project Cøherence (Sol Selectas) gives his organic mood to the main track "Andromedah", delivering a remix plenty of subtle vocals, ethnical incluences and sunset revelations. On the other hand, the mighty Mattia Pompeo (Sincopat, Stil vor Talent, Suara, Einmusika) hits "Moordale" with a clear Indie Dance twist turning it into a real dance floor acid anthem, which can be considered as a future classic for Chrom.
