Hello ! This is a cover of a Falcom game, made for the monthly Pixel Mixers cover contest. Theme for this month was "Touhou vs Falcom" and I chose this tune out of the gazillion good tunes that the theme allowed. I never played a trails game but it reminded me of Spain by Chick Corea who passed away earlier this year.
Insruments this month are : Electric guitar and slide guitar, Cellos, Alto saxophones, Handclaps, Castanets, Reunionese Kayanm, Tambourine, Bongos, Darboukah, Bodhran and two tiny little cymbals used as moroccan Q'aqab.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky - On the Beach at Dusk

This track was originally done for a Final Fantasy 8 album initiative that sadly got cancelled. I already had the main arrangement finished pretty quickly, and it was too good _not_ to finish it.

For my track I picked "Fragments of Memories", a music box like piece that plays in the Laguna Loire flashback sequences. I really like to do slower, sad, reminiscent songs with feelz every now and then, and this was an excellent source for it. I started out with transposing it to minor key, with just piano and viola for extra sadness, but halfway changed my mind and figured it would be really interesting to switch it back to major key and make it more optimistic rather than sad.

Early on, I also settled on the idea of making it a vocal track again to give it an extra dimension. It was a joy to work with Joy on my remix of Suikoden 2, and I just knew she had the perfect voice for this track. Not only did she deliver a great performance, she also was a great help with the lyrics, which we co-wrote, and delivered some sweet harmonies to boot. 

For lyrical concept, I thought it would be very interesting to tell the story from Ellone’s perspective, reminiscing about the moments in her life. If you don’t know, Ellone is an important character in the game, and in the first flashback she (as a small, adorable child) and Laguna bond and eventually Laguna marries with Raine, Ellone’s foster mother. 

I end up using more and more live instruments as I progress on this musical journey. For this particular track I was able to record the accordion and guitar parts myself, as well as some backing vocals. I originally reached out to Chris to perform the lead viola part because I was struggling (and lazy) to make the sampled part sound good. Chris was good enough to point out that he also plays violin and cello and hence would be able to record the entire string section. It gave the track a more intimate chamber orchestra feeling with a drier sound, which I think works really well.

All in all really happy with how this turned out. Hope it hits you just as much in teh feelz as it did me :)

This is my entry for the Pixel Mixers December 2019 contest, which has a fitting theme of "Ending/Credits Themes".

This is by far my most ambitious cover, having not only my usual 6 guitar tracks (4x rhythm, 2x leads), 1 bass track and drums, but it also contains a whole orchestra comprising 47 other tracks.

I feel Octopath Traveler is by far one of my favorite video game OSTs in a loooong time, I think at this time I've covered 6 other songs in some way or another.
And the Ending Theme is a great way of wrapping it up. The original theme is a clockwise tour of the worlds regions starting in the Frostlands and ending in the Woodlands, with the main theme at the end, with a coda to close it out, making it effectively a medley of 10 songs.
As I didn't start in the Frostlands though in my playthrough, I didn't want to start there in my cover. Instead I rearranged things to the way I went through the game, starting in the Riverlands and oddly enough ending in the Frostlands.
And because I had already covered the Sunlands in my attempt at LoFi/Chillhop I felt it only fitting to do it the same way here.
