Mission Log: 023 - Phoenix

Questions is a track that caries a lot of weight for me. I’ve been dealing with trying to understand so much about my life and my place in society and in music, and I’m currently in a place of huge uncertainty that I think about every day. 
Some of the questions that have been on my mind that are in this song are: is pursuit of art worth it? Am I vain for thinking I’m even capable? Why is society so keen on pushing down people who think differently? Am I biologically determined to living my life like this? Can I carve a realm in sound that is uniquely mine?

There is all sorts of stuff I have been grappling with, some of it dumb, some of it personal, but I always try and wrap it into music. Seems to be the only thing that can truly hold my focus. 
The arc of the song represents the changing of my mindset over the last year. It’s starts out dark and ambient, full of unsettling feelings and not a lot of resolution until reaching the first drop where the intensity of the collection of those feelings is released in a raw scream of sound. 

By the end of the track the complexity of the ideas has continued to develop until the final drop brings us back to the first drop idea, only this time those ideas have changed, they have more to say, they are more melodic, there is a glimmer of hope, but ultimately they are unresolved ideas. 
This is the first chapter of my year. I’m excited to see where it goes and if you’re interested to talk about it feel free to reach out.
