With his three track ‘Hustler Stomp’ release currently blazing hot on the I’m A House Gangster label, Sidney Charles drops by with an equally hot mix for the Gangstercast.  The mix features 80 minutes of Sidney’s trademark jacking, stomping and booty shaking house, just the way we love it at HG HQ.

Born as Sidney Charles Hurricane Vieljans in Hamburg, Germany, Sidney’s introduction to music was through the magic of two 1210s spinning Hip Hop, Soul, Funk, Breakbeat and Turntablism, before transitioning to the faster BPMs of House and Techno and the culture which accompanied dance music.  Sidney is clear to state that he is not a musician, nor a percussionist, but a collector. A collector of culture and experiences.

Speaking of the I’m A House Gangster sound, Sidney comments, “It’s pumping, raw house, mainly influenced by funk and hip hop orientated samples. The sound represents a certain state of authenticity and realness. As the House Gangster style points out, House Music is not only music, its a way of thinking, acting and living. The attitude towards house music is the most important thing, that stands behind the whole House Gangster sound.”

Homero Espinosa began his career in the pioneering San Francisco Bay Area party scene of the early ‘90s as a DJ, promoter, and music enthusiast. Over the last two decades, he has cultivated his passion for music through a no-nonsense work ethic. Today, he applies his industrious temperament to everything from rocking a crowd, engineering a remix, or producing modern dance music.
As a producer, his highly tuned feel for groove has earned him support with DJs like Mark Farina, DJ Heather and Miguel Migs. Farina has featured tracks by Homero on his Fabric and Ministry of Sound DJ mixes, while Migs recently signed a new EP to his Salted label.

Homero also runs a boutique record label and recording studio located inside the famous Moulton Media complex, home to Miguel Migs, Claude Von Stroke and Chris Lum, amongst others. There, Homero produces original music and remixes for his label, Yerba Buena Discos. Homero has also written original music and produced remixes for other independent labels throughout the world, including….

As a DJ, Homero has played in a variety of venues and clubs throughout the world. From the clubs of Europe to the well-known venues of his local San Francisco, Homero has proven to be a solid performer, professional craftsman and tasteful guide of the hottest new music out today. His long run of weekly residencies in the over saturated DJ market of the Bay Area is a testament to this point.
Homero has long preferred to stay out of the limelight. His favorite accolades are the high fives and pats on the back that follow playing a stirring set, or the satisfaction that comes from hearing one his tracks on a booming sound system during a night of party hopping. But he won’t stay hidden for too long. Homero has a style of production which combines ‘90s rave sounds and melodic elements with jazz, soul, and hip hop influences to produce a sound which is mature, elegant, and has an indie flair. It is only a matter of time before he is embraced by wider audience around the world.

With innovative productions, consummate technical skills and an effortlessly joyful attitude of rocking a crowd, his impact has infiltrated throughout the spectrum of dance music. Derrick began DJ’ing at the age of nine, spinning disco records at family reunions. Born and raised in the western suburbs, Carter was into music from a young age, but during his teens Chicago's house scene sucked him in for good. Before long Carter became a strong presence in the city's underground dance scene.

When we sat down with Mikey, we asked how the mix represented him as an artist, Mikey replied with “I like to keep things lively and fun with a blend of deep, jack, soul and tech.”

Mikey went on to explain, what house music meant to him “House music is my life. It truly saved me so many times and shaped me into the person I am today. I knew a long time ago this was for me, regardless of my place in it. When you know, you know. It’s more than just the music it’s the way of life.” We then asked Mikey what the House Gangster movement meant to him, he responded with, “It’s a game changer. I love how it stays true to that proper, raw underground sound that a lot of people maybe haven’t been exposed too, that’s so important. It’s been crazy awesome seeing it grow so much over the years, and I think it’s just the beginning.”

Episode 94 of the Gangstercast series is brought to us by 2Vilas aka Hector Avila & Carlos Vila. Hector, born in Ibiza and Carlos, born in Majorca met after working as sound and light technicians for Pacha Ibiza in 2008. Soon afterwards, both realized that each had a mutual love and talent for music and decided to begin an after party in Ibiza. From the very first set played together in 2008, a great musical collaboration was discovered by successfully merging together each one's style. Since then, Hector and Carlos have joined forces to form 2Vilas. They began producing and within a very short period of time have already released tracks with record labels: Isgud Records, Bondage Music, Straight Music, Anhura Records and WetCellarRecords.

When we sat down with the guys, we asked how the mix represents them as an artists, they replied with “This mix is us 100%, it’s a vinyl only set, some records are from stores, such as Can Vinilo - Dacha or Subwaxbcn, some records are promo’s from friends and some records are from our new productions on our vinyl label (Wax isgud - Isla Records)”.

The guys went on to explain, what the House Gangster movement means to them “We have been following the house gangster movement for a long time… its old school, it sounds  Chicago, it sounds like the island and some of our influences in the studio come from here.”

As it strides on into its 11th year, German label Kindisch is back with another of its
excellent Kindisch Stories compilations, this time headed up by Dance Spirit after a
fine edition from Bedouin in 2016.Christopher Mohn and Reagan Denius are Dance Spirit, a duo that has been turning out compelling electronic music on labels like Supernature, Rebellion and Akbal
Music since 2014. Passionate about timbre, melody and movement, their music is
sensitive stuff that makes for steamy dancefloor excursions and takes the pair behind
it all over the world as residents for Flying Circus. Here they show off their selecting
and sequencing skills with a 13 track offering that features five brand new tracks and
eight of their own exclusive remixes from the label’s back catalogue.
Things kick off with a flurry of Dance Spirit originals: ‘Enouement’ is a tech cut with a
middle eastern feel thanks to the organic string sounds and glitchy textures, then
‘Piercing the Veil’ offers a nice supple and rubbery groove to get lost in before the
pair link with Robbie Akbal for ‘Moving Shapes’, a seven minute masterpiece of loose
and jumbled percussion, popping percussive sounds and jostling minimal beats. It is
brilliantly atmospheric and really soundtracks a unique world.
From there Dance Spirit show off their remix skills with great versions of tracks by
Nick Galemore, Powell and Gab Rhome, all of which are magically musical as well as
slick and groove driven: lingering pianos and sombre chords all colour the airwaves
and make for an intoxicating mood that sucks you right in.
This carries on through the second half and excellent remixes of YokoO, Stavroz and
LUM. It’s back to original material then with a track featuring Hana Choe that bubbles
with spacey chords and dreamy vocals. The whole splendid selection closes down
with a trio of delicately designed and intricately detailed cuts that are absorbing and
woozy and finish this selection in style.
Both as a compilation and testament of the skill of Dance Spirit as producers, this is a
fantastic statement.

Since its emergence in the mid-late 1980s in Detroit, techno music has spread like wildfire across the world music scene, igniting the talents of aspiring artists seeking to leave an indelible mark on this ever-changing, competitive genre. With its driving, repetitive rhythms and diversified style, techno has become the craze of the music industry, attracting millions of fans across the globe. For those who want to delve into the techno scene, the journey would be incomplete without an exploration into the musical creations by one of Detroit’s best: Chuck Daniels. His passion for music began at an early age while listening to the vinyl hits of the 80s on his dad’s turntable, soaking in a smorgasbord of musical styles. He remembers his love of the 90s at Record Time and Melodies & Memories, where he eagerly waited for the latest and greatest releases to emerge. Unlike the media frenzy of the 21st century where music can be accessed at one’s fingertips, Daniels credits these stores for their vital contribution to the culture of the times and the dissemination of music to the public. On his travels through pop genres, Chuck was then exposed to the sounds of soul. Imbedded in soul music are roots of African-American gospel music, rhythm ‘n’ blues, and jazz, and so this too became part of Chuck’s steady diet. All this, together with influences of techno, New York and Chicago house, and the rich sounds of music legends like Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan, contributed to Daniels’ immersion into the melting pot of popular music. 
We can trace Daniels’ career back to his teens when he and his best friend, Ross Reimer, began mixing music after school on Ross’s Technics 1200’s and Numark mixer. These daily encounters eventually culminated into a co-owned DJ company. Hooked up throughout the greater Detroit area, Daniels and Reimer became the “go to guys” for weddings, parties, and clubs of all types—you name it—they played it, from soup to nuts, tailor-made for their specific clients. As time went on, the routine became monotonous and unfulfilling for Daniels. In 1993, he attended his first rave and his life changed forever. He surrounded himself with the best in the business, beginning with Dean Major, known for his Syst3m parties. This led to his first party, Can You Dance to My Beat? 

Daniels’ deep-seeded love for music, coupled with his fire in the belly to craft his own creations, could no longer be ignored. He made a life-changing decision to sell his portion of the DJ business to Reimer in order to compose and produce his own music. Captivated by music of the underground, Daniels took a giant leap of faith and took a 180 degree turn into the world of techno. Quickly, he devised a plan to build a production studio in the basement of his residence in Detroit, Michigan. This is where the magic begins for Daniels, as he separates from all the distractions of the world to mold his musical masterpieces. In 2002, Daniels’ label, Sampled Detroit, debuted and the rest is history. Although his path has not always been easy, Daniels has had a wealth of input and support for his label from colleagues such as Jason Hodges, Wally Callerio, and Dimitri Max. The collaboration with other artists in the field continues to kindle his creative juices, fifteen years since the birth of Sampled Detroit. From the remix of “Good Luck” for Kevin Saunderson’s Inner City, to his collaborations with music legends such as Amp Fiddler, Claude Young, Mike Clark, and Oliver Dollar, to name a few, Daniels keeps an energetic production schedule. Most recently, Daniels’ remix for Seth Troxler’s imprint, Play It Say It reached #1 on Beatport and top 5 in Ibiza. Undeniably, Daniels is riding high and revving up to take the motor city techno town to its highest level. Stay tuned and listen up, cause the best is yet to come!
