From LIZZY AL TOQUE of #CVCBayArea: “Over the last year, I’ve been able to explore what it means to have a ’sound’ as a DJ while on my own little fantasy island, Siqodelico, a monthly residency at San Francisco’s Mothership bar. That’s where I began to trace a shoreline of tropical and romantic nostalgia with 60s and 70s Peruvian tunes on vinyl. Just recently, a fun new challenge has emerged: Peru surf. While none of the artists in my collection exclusively play surf and many of the songs are fusions of multiple genres, a thread of melodic electric guitar, pedal effects, crooning, and shouting has brought this new focus together. I hope you can sink your feet in the sand and watch the waves this summer to the sounds of Peru Surf: go-go, garage, fuzz, chicha/cumbia, boogaloo, and wah wah… Peru Surf is ???% surf, 100% Peruvian.”

I give to you a well intended throw-away mix with cuts that did not make it to “Mundos Diferentes”… A culmination of music that summarizes my interests as DJ and a creative passionate in search for honest and exciting sounds. What draws me to Lovers Rock are the themes of love and heartbreak, the warmth of the tempo and the heaviness of the bass. It was music created and mixed to sound good and feel good coming from the big speakers of the sound systems. Lovers Rock created community, highlighted women artists, and gave Black British youth a voice in the 70’s. 
 
This mix is dedicated to all the lovers out there. Whether you listen to it with your sweetheart, friends or on your own, I hope it has you swaying back & forth. xoxo. 

Lovers rock, the softer side of reggae, was created and popularized in mid-70s England by the first generation of British citizens born to Caribbean immigrants. At a time when Black British people experienced extreme racism and were denied entry into white dominated spaces, blues parties or house parties, created by community members, gave youth the opportunity to socialize and express their Jamaican and British identity through style and music. Through a Lovers Rock tune bumping from the sound system, youth could finally unwind, enjoy the music and find love.”
