I Still Have Hope

It's Thelonious-Panarlberg-Guybrush-Threepwood-Monkday! Commander Fullyard and myself had been snacking on this one since April 2021. More than happy that we finally got our baby born! While mighty Fullyard has done all the freaking magic he is famous for, my contribution was mainly about nonsense ideas such as playing the Theremin and sampling blowing-over-beerbottle sounds. Thank you a million times Stefan for this adventure, your stamina and all the wolves! The result is far beyond expectation; retrospectively it was clear however that things would be damn cool --- synchronized hairstyles obviously go hand in hand with synchronized vibes.

Hi and welcome to the 7th track by "Then She Reaches For The Gun". The ever changing line up has some new members this time around as we tackle Lewis Carroll’s famous nonsense poem The Jabberwocky. I haven’t read Carroll since I was a teenager so it was a cool trip down memory lane doing a bit of background research for this piece. Big Thanks to Gary Rees who first sent me an English reading to the work a few months ago. It sat on my desktop for a while as I wondered how tackle the work. After a while it seemed obvious the best (and most fun) approach might be to get some translations recording in other languages… so thats what we did, hope u enjoy

The project’s inspiration is two fold: Firstly its a homage to some of the stuff i grew up listening to like Mr. Bungle and other noisy bastards where anything goes, and often in quick fire succession and secondly it” a chance to work with an never ending stream of talented musicians that i have known for years either in real life Australia or via the Internet. Each track will no doubt change depending on who has sent me what. 

If you would like to be part of this ongoing project….

The process is simple, I collect a bunch of random recordings from people and then see what i can arrange from it. Nothing subtle here, just huge noisy fun : ) I am open to anyone that thinks they might like to be part of this mess. Drop me a message and i will send you my email. The only criteria is that i wont be using samples from TV/film/other music etc, so just original stuff played on instruments, field recordings, stupid drunk conversations etc. Cheers!

Hi everybody, been having a rummage through the loft space and came across this is original blast from the past electronic garage track that was recorded at Manchester Midi School here in the UK back in 1998 and was composed and produced by myself and DJ Raw, so i brushed off the spider webs and it worked great, the track was composed on an Atari 1040ste with 1 meg of Ram and an old monochrome monitor and has made me feel real old lol Hope you enjoy! The main synthline across the track is played interactively on Buchla Easel Command 208c. One thing about it - it is not a synth in normal/usual way expected from a machine making sound by moving electrons. It is rather an instrument trully. Here is my first track with this beaut synth, exploring Buchla-sweet analogue twangs and tones. Just like Auroras, you expect the colors, but they are always different somehow. 

All 5 mins played in one shot interactively, moving Buchla sliders placed in main panel in one row. Brilliant design to be able to see what's going on with wires and sliders position. Being able to move many sliders as you go just does not let you setup a preset and play it thru. You want to change things always, naturally. It is a synth technically, but feels more like playing a jaw harp or guitar. When you twang a string while playing. Here you have 22 sliders handy aligned for that. 

Lower and higher notes are the sound of two oscillators playing the same incoming midi pattern. While envelope, wave-folding timbers, opening gate and voltage controlled amp are tweaked interactively. Also sequencer(strangely 3-5 steps max, not 4 or 8), is not only for arping notes,instead for voltage control other oscillators and combo filter/amp. 

I still do love Moog and East-coast "traditional" subtractive concept, but now dig the West-coast concept as much. Its a privilege to own and play this 1974 designed, slightly improved with usb-midi for modern times analogue gear. I fell in love with Buchla tones/concept when played newly released Arturia VST few years back. (check one synthline track: https://soundcloud.com/samprock/patrol?in=samprock/sets/4-million-thank-you).  Same idea in this track - explore one synths sound. Real synth sound, plus few sounds made by VST in the middle section. Tried to limit other instruments: two Arturia MoogMini basslines, Pigments FX-ing, OB-xa pads, Kick2. 

Buchla (monosynth) line is split to left/right with one phrase apart for more stereo movement. Jun-6 Chorus, Live 11 Echo, FafFilter Pro-C2, Timeless 3, Pro-R in different amount/locations across the song. Mastered with UAD OxideTape, IK One, and FabFilters Pro-MB compressor and Pro-L2 final limiter.

This song is about a drifter who roles into ghost town where he sees shadows silhouette of people from a long time ago. He thinks that they are real and experiences an evening of southern hospitality that includes a bottle of bourbon whisky. It's when he wakes up in the morning that he thinks if it was all in his head....Were they just visions he had in that ghost town. The deeper meaning to the song is that we live in a world we think is real, formed by our experiences and influenced by the environment. However, there may come a time when we wake up to the reality as it really is. Life is formed around ghosts and sillouettes who can influence our behaviour. As Marcus Aurelius once words are opinions not facts....or in the modern era....wake up and taste the coffee.

After a long time I come back with something controversial, so you should sit down before reading and listening further. I have created something very different inspired by the Ukraine-war. I needed a song to channel my aggression and this is the result. So I have recorded a Metal-HipHop crossover-track inspired by Public Enemy, who did the same on their legendary "It takes a million to hold us back"-album.
I have used this song to test also some new production-methods for my project "Heartscore".

PROTEST

When https://soundcloud.com/dneye asked me for a track to play his fantastic guitars on, I brainstormed this 5/4 piece with odd chord set in order to make it difficult to him and thus get the best from his skills. After programming it, I added some organic solos (yep I played keys) to make it seem more friendly ;))))

And he... succeeded in the challenge, overcoming all my expectations !!!
